David Haust Obituary

A huge hole has been left in the world. On February 28th, David Haust, a man who always thought the best of everyone, died.

Born December 7, 1949, in Romulus, NY David lived a life of fabulous experiences and adventures, profound relationships and followed passions.

The formative event of his early life was a two-year residency at Peters Valley School of Craft where he studied and worked in the woodworking studio. From there David moved to Columbia County, NY and began a 40 year career as an award winning builder eventually founding his own company, Quadresign. He was proud to have been the builder of two homes appearing in the Architectural Record. David was also an accomplished photographer as well as an avid canoeist who solo paddled the entire Erie Canal from Seneca Lake to Albany.

In retirement, David returned to his woodworking roots. He got back in the studio and produced stunning, functional pieces shown in several sold out gallery shows. He loved being in the studio.

David's greatest accomplishments were his two children, Shayna of Richmond and Nate of Truckee, CA whom he loved unconditionally and always encouraged to pursue their own passions. He loved nothing more than being their father. David also leaves his partner of nearly 20 years, Suzanne Crerar of Richmond, brother William Haust of Ashland NH, the mother of his children Lynn Meyers of Richmond, lifelong friends Karla Kavanaugh of East Chatham NY & Ned Foss of Delmar NY, and a host of others too countless to name but equally important.

On this and every day, it would be David's wish that each of us are sure to tell the people we love how much we love them, appreciate them and are grateful for their presence in our lives.

Shayna,
We knew you years ago, but I remember your father well.
(He was very
thoughtful and kind when Valentina left us. I still have a photo of you, V. and Emily G., sitting in the bed of our pickup. A long time ago.)
Your father was clearly well loved and lived a good life.
I´m very sorry for your loss and wish you well.

So kind and an indefatigable friend, he listened way more than he talked. Loved nature and animals. He will be missed. RIP. Love Lori Grifa & Estes Hoffman.
