Doris M. Benjamin

1923 - 2017

Doris M. (Blumendale) Benjamin, age 93, died Thursday, April 6, 2017 at the Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility after a brief illness.

Doris was born in Pittsfield on April 17, 1923, and was one of two children born to the late Joseph and Fannie (Herforth) Blumendale. She attended Pittsfield schools, and was a graduate of the Pittsfield High School class of 1940. Doris was employed initially at the General Electric Co., then going to work for over twenty years at Coyle Print and Mailing Company, and finishing her working years as a waitress for many local area restaurants.

Doris was married to Ralph Benjamin Jr. for 35 years before his passing on January 3, 1978. A former parishioner of St. Mary's Church, she later joined St. Joseph's Church, where she was a long time member.

Doris enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing Bingo and reading, and most of all, she enjoyed the company of her family and friends.

Doris is survived by a son, Brian C. Benjamin of Pittsfield, and her two daughters, Beverly Brodeur and her spouse Sidney of Pittsfield, and Barbara Mozzi and her spouse Gino of Pittsfield. She is also survived by her 4 grandchildren: Matthew and Jason Brodeur and Michael and Mark Mozzi, 1 great granddaughter, Olivia Mozzi, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Doris was predeceased by one son, Bruce Benjamin, in 1996, and her brother, Joseph Blumendale.

The family would like to extend a special expression of gratitude to Mt. Greylock Extended Care for their excellent care and compassion shown to Doris over the past year.

SERVICES: Benjamin, Doris M., age 93, of Pittsfield, died April 6, 2017. Calling Hours for Doris will be held at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave. on MONDAY, April 10, 2017 from 4 to 7PM.

Funeral Services will be held TUESDAY, April 11, 2017 at 9:30AM from the funeral home with Rev. Msgr. Michael A. Shershanovich, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions in Doris Benjamin's Memory may be made to the Hospice Care of the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
