Edward Weeden Obituary

Edward Harry "Jed" Weeden passed away surrounded by his loving family on November 2, 2025. He was born in Bennington, VT on October 18, 1953 to David A. and Jean C. Weeden. The third of six brothers, he grew up in Lee, MA and spent his youth delivering newspapers, deep sea fishing and cross-country dirt biking with friends. As a young man, he was a lineman on the Lee High School football team, a bodybuilder and gymnast, and worked on the pit crew for a friend's top fuel dragster at Lebanon Valley Speedway.

A gifted third generation stonemason, Jed spent most of his career building spectacular stone walls, fireplaces, chimneys, patios and more-including The Grotto at Saint Agnes Church in Dalton, extensive stone walls at the Tavitian estate in Stockbridge, and many projects at Williams College. His talent was highly sought after and can be found in homes, buildings, schools, and churches in every corner of the Berkshires. He also did meticulous restoration work on several historic structures, including the Round Stone Barn at Hancock Shaker Village, and at St Ann's Church in Lenox. More than just getting the job done, he truly cared about building something lasting and beautiful.

He was a beloved member of the Okinawan Karate School and Elm Street Martial Arts family. Known to his students as Sensei Jed, he earned the rank of 6th Dan (1st degree master) black belt in Okinawan Ueichi Ryu Karate over three decades of dedicated practice. He enjoyed teaching teens classes and made several lifelong friends at the Dojo.

He loved classic cars, rock and country music, and bikes of all kinds. He was most at peace on his Harley, riding along Route 2 from Williamstown, MA into New York State, where he would visit "the camp".

He could always be counted on to lend a helping hand or make you laugh with one of his trademark corny or off-color jokes (depending on the audience). He was a man of many talents, including working on houses, fixing cars, and building stonework with an artist's eye. His strength was legendary, yet he never lost his mischievous side, making him a favorite of children of all ages.

He was a loving and devoted father to his three children, of whom he was so proud: Seamus Weeden (Mattie) of Pawtucket, RI, Conor Weeden of Hinsdale, MA, and Meaghan Weeden (Dave) of Cummington, MA. He also leaves Erin Weeden of Hinsdale, MA, to whom he was married for 38 years. He is also survived by his beloved granddaughter, Mahala Weeden, and two brothers: David Weeden (Cathy) of West Stockbridge, and Robert Weeden (Cheryl) of Brandon, VT. In addition to his immediate family, he leaves a large extended family, as well as many friends made and lives touched along the way.

He was predeceased by his parents, and three brothers: Daniel Weeden (Joan) of Lee, MA, William Weeden (Louisa) of Pittsfield, MA, and John Weeden (Dodi) of Pownal, VT. He was also predeceased by his niece, Karissa Weeden, of North Adams, MA.

He'll be missed for his kind and loving heart, strong sense of duty and protectiveness, top-notch sense of humor, and timeless advice.

To the Weeden family: I am so sorry I did not make it to the service today. I didn't see the notice until after the service was over. I trained with Jed for many years and at one point, assisted him with the Teen's Class. He was always a fun guy to be around, had a great committment to the kids and the dojo. He was incredibly proud of his own children and was always glowing when he shared the latest accomplishments. He was such a good guy to be around and again, I am sorry for your loss and so very sorry that I didn't get to join you today. There must have been some great "Sensei Jed" stories.
