Flora Szymanski Obituary
Mrs. Flora Katherine “Florence” (Nowak) Szymanski, 81, of 120 Friend St.. Adams, died Thursday evening, Aug. 11, 2005, at North Adams Regional Hospital.
Born in Adams on April 5, 1924, a daughter of Jan and Agata (Rogowski) Nowak, she graduated from the former Adams High School in 1942.
Mrs. Szymanski worked in the accounting department of the former Sprague Products Co. in North Adams for 27 years, retiring in 1984.
She was an active communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams, where she served as a lector and volunteered on many parish committees, including for the bazaar and picnic. She was a member of its Rosary Sodality and of St. Cecelia’s Choir. She also was a member and past president of the St. Stanislaus Parent-Teacher Group, the former TMTM Club and the St. Michael’s Society, and was a member of the Adams World Day of Prayer Committee. She volunteered for many years at NARH and enjoyed knitting, bowling and baking cakes.
She and her husband, John G. Szymanski, were married Aug. 30, 1947.
Besides her husband, she leaves two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Elizabeth Szymanski of Bellevue, Neb., and Paul and Arlene Szymanski of Attleboro; two brothers, Chester Nowak of Charlevoix, Mich., and Edmund Nowak of Clinton Township, Mich.; three sisters, Josephine Carpenter of Stony Point, N.Y., Genevieve Kornbacher of Troy, Mich., and Monica Nowak of Adams; five grandchildren, Laura Szymanski and Kate Wiedemann, both of Bellevue, Kerri Nighelli of Plymouth; Mark Szymanski of Attleboro and Kyle Szymanski, stationed with the Marine Corps in Japan, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Stanley Nowak.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral will be held Monday, Aug. 15, at 9 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church by Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Catholic parishes of Adams. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Adams.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Members of the St. Stanislaus Rosary Sodality will meet at the funeral home Sunday at 3:45 p.m. to pay their respects and recite the rosary.
