Gordon Hubbard Obituary

Gordon C. Hubbard, age 54, died unexpectedly on Thursday, February 2, 2023 of an apparent cardiac arrest while working as a member of the ski patrol at Bousquet Mountain Ski Area in Pittsfield, MA.

He was born in Syosset, NY on January 20, 1969 a son of Dr. Norman S. Hubbard and Joan Calhoun Newcomb. Gordon was a 1987 graduate of Oyster Bay High School and then went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree in psychology from Yale University in 1991. He later earned his Master's in Education from Hofstra University in 1993 and was actively working towards his Doctorate Degree in Education from Grand Canyon University.

Mr. Hubbard was a brilliant man with an amazing sense of humor. He held numerous jobs over the years, notably working as a science teacher for both the Eastport South Manor School District from 1997-2006 and the Peekskill School District from 2006-2017. Gordon also was a member of the National Ski Patrol for 10 years and volunteered/worked for both Belleayre Mountain Ski Center and Bousquet Mountain Ski Area ski patrols.

On May 17, 2017 Gordon and his wife Patricia bought the Mt. Greylock Campsite Park in Lanesborough, Massachusetts where the two were working side by side as owners and operators. They finished up their 6th season this past fall.

A man of deep rooted faith, Gordon and Pat joined the South Congregational Church in Pittsfield in November and he had been a member of the Westhampton Presbyterian Church in Westhampton Beach, NY for over 25 years. He was also a former youth group leader there for 13 years.

Gordon enjoyed people and giving back to the community around him. He was a member of the Oyster Bay Fire Department, President of the Garrison Ambulance Squad, Selectman for the Town of Lanesborough and was an avid volunteer cook at St. Joe's Kitchen. He loved music (especially tunes from the 80s) and technology. Where most of us would shy away from something with too many wires, Gordon would run towards it with excitement. From setting up new systems within the campground, to helping with A/V equipment for community events or at church, he was our go to person with technology questions.

He loved the seasons of New England and New York; from sailing and cycling in the summertime to skiing throughout the winter, Gordon was never without an adventure or project. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Sint Maarten, and spending time with his family. He was also an animal lover, especially their cats Miss Ellie and Oliver and Sonny "the Bad Horse."

Gordon is survived by his wife of 18 years, Patricia Hubbard, whom he married on June 26, 2004 in Oyster Bay, NY. He also leaves his parents, Joan Hubbard of Poquott, NY and Dr. Norman Hubbard of Oyster Bay, NY, his children, Kevin and his wife Danielle of Westerly, RI, Daniel and his wife Jaime of Long Island, NY, and Bryan and his wife Danielle of Fairfield, CT and 4 grandchildren, Jaxon, Aiden, Evelyn and Kaia. Additionally, Gordon is survived by his brother John Hubbard and his partner Maura Burns of Oyster Bay, NY, his brother-in-law Robert D. Hale and his wife Joy of Framlingham, England, cousins Chris and Karin Ryon, and countless friends and coworkers who will all miss Gordon dearly. In a last act of generosity, Gordon was a registered organ donor who helped multiple people in need.

SERVICES: Friends are invited to join with the family on SATURDAY, February 11, 2023 at the Devanny-Condron Funeral Home in Pittsfield, MA for calling hours from 12-2PM. I am so shocked by Gordon's passing. He will remain in my heart as a kind yet passionate man.
I was privileged to have worked with Gordon as he was my number one producer as a sales rep.
He was always helpful to other reps as a great mentor. He loved his family and above all his wife Pat. He will be missed by all who knew him. I am quite certain he is now in peace with the Lord.

Gordon was a special energy force of positivity and kindness. He will always be remembered with a smile and sense of loss in his passing much too soon.
We were fortunate to meet you, Patricia, in Winchester, Virginia when you brought a youth group through on a mission trip. We thought happily, Gordon has found his soul mate!
