Guy de Berry Obituary

Overline: Headline: Guy de Berry, 71, Berkshire Village farmer Subtitle: Byline: Obituaries Story Body: EGREMONT -- Guy de Berry, 71, of Jug End Road, South Egremont, died Tuesday morning at home.

Born in Minneapolis on June 15, 1934, son of Ellett M. and Erica Thorp de Berry, he grew up on a ranch in Sonora, Texas, where he was home-schooled. He and his family spent some time in Gstaad, Switzerland, when he was 4 years old. He went to a training school in Vineland, N.Y., and lived there for 19 years.

In 1972, he moved to Berkshire Village, where he was a farmer and did domestic chores.

Mr. de Berry participated in the founding of the Cadmus Lifesharing Association. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, cultural events such as classical concerts, and listening to folk and country music. He also participated in Community Access to the Arts, and sang old cowboy songs.

He leaves two sisters, Alice Brook of Ingram, Texas, and Anne L. de Berry of Sonora, and John and Christine Root, with whom he lived.

FUNERAL NOTICE-- Services for Guy de Berry will be Friday, June 24, 2005, at noon at the Christian Community Center in Hillsdale, N.Y., conducted by the Rev. Peter Skaller. Cremation will follow. He also leaves two nieces, Erica Forbes and Caroline de Berry; his grand niece, Allegra Forbes; his sister-in-law, Carol de Berry, and his extended family in the Cadmus Lifesharing Association. He was predeceased by his brother Joe, who died in a plane crash as a young man. His body has been prepared by his close friends and is lying in state in the upstairs living room, Cadmus royalty, as always. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Cadmus Lifesharing Association or the Community Access to the Arts through the FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
