Harvey J. Giroux

1934 - 2013 ADAMS Harvey J. Giroux, 78, of 14 Columbia Terrace, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at St. Peters Hospital in Albany, N.Y.

Born in Adams on Sept. 15, 1934, son of Harvey A. and Wilma M. Boruta Giroux, he attended St. Stanislaus Kostka Elementary School and graduated from the former Adams High School in 1952.

Mr. Giroux was employed with the former W. R. Grace Co. in Adams for 48 years, retiring as a maintenance mechanic. He was also a certified locksmith by trade.

He was a 21-year member of the former Company M unit of the National Guard in Adams.

He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, where served as an altar boy, and was a member and past trustee of the Mountain Club. He enjoyed bowling and fishing, and was an avid Red Sox and New England Patriots fan.

He is survived by his wife the former, Leda A. Gotzens, whom he married Feb. 4, 1983; a daughter, Brenda DeMaestri of North Adams; two sons, Mark Demastrie of Rhode Island, and Thomas Demastrie of Colorado; a sister, Christine Abbott of Adams; a grandson, Nathanial Stanley, and several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Dolores Rancatti and Virginia Giroux; by a brother, Ronald A. Giroux, and by his beloved Scottish Terrier, Duncan.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Services for Harvey J. Giroux will take place Saturday, May 18, 2013, at 12 p.m. from the TROTTIER PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St., with the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Parish of Pope John Paul the Great in Adams, officiating. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at a later date to be announced in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery. Following the service, there will be a reception at the American Legion Post 160. Donations in his memory may be made to the Adams Ambulance Fund in care of the funeral home.
