It is with love and gratitude that we announce the passing of Irene (Lloyd) Inglis, who departed at her home at the age of 103. A lifelong learner, dedicated nurse, and proud veteran, she lived a century filled with service, compassion, and strength.
Born in North Adams, Massachusetts, to Harold and Grace Lloyd, Irene graduated from Drury High School in 1943. She went on to pursue her passion for caring for others, becoming a Registered Nurse at the House of Mercy Hospital in
Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
During World War II, she answered her country's call to serve, joining the United States Naval Reserve Nurse Corps in 1944. As a Lieutenant (Junior Grade), she served in Portsmouth, Virginia; Chelsea, Massachusetts; and Long Beach, California, supporting service members in need.
After her military service, Irene continued her commitment to helping others. She earned her degree in Anatomy from North Adams State College in 1972, and went on to teach at McCann Technical School, sharing her expertise in medical and surgical nursing with the next generation of caregivers.
Irene was predeceased by her second husband, Russell Richard Inglis, Jr., with whom she shared many happy years of companionship in Georgia. There she enjoyed leading the church choir, singing with Georgia Harmony (a chorus of Sweet Adelines), golfing, and spending time with family and friends. She was also predeceased by her son, Steven, in 2013.
Through these losses, Irene demonstrated quiet strength and refused to slow down. She spent her later years in
Acushnet, Massachusetts, where she became a respected member of her community. Irene was committed to Acushnet Wesley Methodist Church, helping lead the choir and playing the organ at several area churches. A woman of great intelligence, Irene used social media and email to stay connected with family and friends well into her hundredth year.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion that will continue to surround all who know her.
She is survived by her grandson, Jeff Isbell, and his wife Rebecca, of Tyngsborough, Mass.; step-granddaughters Chilli Moulton and Carol Bentz; and beloved great-granddaughters Zoe and Ada Isbell.
Her memorial service will be Saturday, November 29, 2025 at 11:00AM in Acushnet Wesley United Methodist Church, 67 Main St.,
Acushnet, MA 02743. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irene's name to the MSCPA at
