James Sullivan Obituary

James T. Sullivan, 58, of Hinsdale, passed away December 31, 2021 at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Bronxville, NY to Sean and Kathleen Bell Sullivan, he attended Wahconah Regional High School and St. Joseph High School.

James married the former Kristine L. Mason on September 2, 1995 at Grace Episcopal Church in Dalton.

After high school Sully moved to Ireland to work alongside his father. When he returned to the US he found his groove with P&P Construction. He traveled the country running major construction projects and making lifelong friendships. He was the owner and operator of Sullivan Sanitation Services from 2015 until his passing.

Nothing electrified Sully the way music did. Not a day went by without him picking a guitar, humming something new, or just jamming out to his favorite songs. Many of his closest friends were from the music world in Berkshire County, many of them playing in multiple bands with Big Jim over the years.

You could find him almost every weekend playing somewhere, with friends or alone, for a crowd. It was always hard to tell who was having more fun - Big Jim or the people he was playing for.

Sully was passionate about politics and a good debate. He loved the town of Hinsdale and hoped to leave his mark on it. He was currently holding office as a Selectman in Hinsdale.

He is survived by his wife, Kristine Sullivan of Hinsdale; daughter, Britany Sullivan; two sons, Justin Sullivan and Ryan Sullivan. Two brothers, Walter Sullivan of CA and Bryan Sullivan of Pittsfield. Three sisters, Colleen Sullivan of CA, Maurya Sullivan of CA, and Siobhan Sullivan of Richmond. He also leaves behind his granddaughter, Jaylynn Sullivan and beloved step-mother Sheila.

He was predeceased by his father, mother, and a younger brother, Sean Sullivan.

FUNERAL NOTICE: There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date in the Summer. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 E. Main St, Dalton, MA 01226.

My heart was broken on New Year's Eve Jim. I loved reconnecting with you after all those years and enjoyed our frequent conversations. You were one of my oldest friends and I will miss you greatly. Godspeed my friend.

To Kristine and the rest of Jim's family, my deepest and most sincere condolences to you all. Jimmy was an awesome presence and I know how deeply he loved you all. God bless

To the Sullivan Family,
I had the great fortune of playing tunes with Sully on more than one occasion. He had a passion for Southern Rock, playing Skynyrd, Hatchett and others. As an organizer, he was top notch, lining up the bands & running the stage for the Boy's Club Lighthouse Reunions and helping coordinate the Dalton Shindig events. Yep, Sully cast a big shadow and made it difficult to fill his boots. He will be sorely missed by all that knew him...me included.
