Jennifer Baker Obituary

Dr. Jennifer (Jen) Lee Baker, of Enfield, CT. passed away on 24 January 2022 at home at the young age of 56. Jennifer was born in California and was raised in Richmond Massachusetts. She was the cherished wife and best friend of Mark Rochette for 18 years. Jennifer also leaves behind her parents, Karen and James Baker of Richmond Massachusetts, her Brother Phil Baker and his wife Cheryl Baker of Este Park Colorado, and her two stepsons Benjamin Rochette and Bryan Rochette who she loved as her own. Jennifer also leaves behind her Nephew Austin Baker of California, her Niece Christina Baker and Husband Brandon Lyons from Massachusetts, and so many dear friends. Jennifer's love touched so many people.

Jennifer was a member of the Enfield Food Club with her husband Mark for many years. Jennifer and Mark generously contributed many holiday meals to those working the holiday shifts at the Enfield Police Department. She was known as an accomplished hostess for gatherings of friends and neighbors, whom she cherished so much. Jennifer and Mark vacationed every year in St. Martin and enjoyed their time together on the beach and eating seafood.

Jennifer was devoted to her work. Jennifer joined the REquipment, Durable Medical Equipment Reuse Program, in Massachusetts in 2017, as the Program Coordinator, after having worked at the New England Assistive Technology Program in Oak Hill, CT for 14 years. She took on this position while the program was in its infancy. With her passion for reuse coupled with her great organizational skills, she was able to establish processes and procedures to efficiently facilitate requests for free, gently used medical equipment for those in need, while providing necessary reporting documentation to funders. Jennifer was not just about the paperwork but was also a great problem solver. Several years ago, when the online inventory host failed, she devised an offline spreadsheet method which enabled the program to continue for several months until an online solution was found. It was a significant effort but was meaningful for her so those in need could continue to be served.

Jennifer was also the Senior Clinical AT Director for UCP of Western Massachusetts. Her passion and dedication to the field of assistive technology helped to redesign the way persons with disabilities can live independently through remote support services. Her commitment to this project will be sure to transform the lives of persons less fortunate.

It was Jennifer's wish not to have a formal wake or funeral. A Celebration of Life will be announced in the Spring. Any donations may be made to Samaritan Purse.

I knew Jennifer years ago when I was her housekeeper at Frew Terrace. One of her many attractive qualities was her love of
animals. I ended up adopting her
cockatiel "Smee", sidekick of her parrot "Captain Cook". She was there for me when I was going through a mysterious illness that was never diagnosed. Albeit sad to lose such a kind and bright soul so early, we must be thankful that she graced her presence on this earth. My sincerest condolences.

Jim & Karen, my heart is so saddened for you both in a very special, personal way. Loss of a child is something we can only try to cope with, not get past or get over. Prayers for your comfort.
