OTIS -- John F. Conboy, 78, of East Otis and Naples, Fla., formerly a 42-year resident of Longmeadow, died Monday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
Born in Port Jervis, N.J., on May 5, 1927, he was raised in Thompsonville, Conn., and was a graduate of Enfield High School. He also graduated from Pace Accounting-Gaugh, Sun Oil and Atlantic Richfield schools of business.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the Air Corps and the Marine Corps.
Mr. Conboy retired from the Longmeadow school system as supervisor of buildings and grounds. He had also operated several Sunoco and ARCO service stations in Longmeadow.
He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and the Masonic Order of Masons.
His wife, the former Jeanne Trainor, died in 1991.
He leaves three sons, John P. Conboy of East Otis, Michael T. Conboy of Otis and Stephen R. Conboy of Longmeadow; two daughters, Karen M. Vogel of Southwick and Dr. Carolyn J. Conboy of Los Angeles; a sister, Mary Rossiter of East Longmeadow, nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A funeral home service for John Conboy will be Saturday, Sept. 24, at 10 at the FORASTIERE-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow, with Rites of Committal to follow in Longmeadow Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, Sept. 23, from 5 to 8. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 393 Maple St., Springfield, MA 01105. He also leaves two daughters-in-law, Lori and Geraldine, a former daughter-in-law, Denise; a son-in-law, Eric; brother-in-law, John; grandchildren, John, Kevin, Erica, Tami, Brian, Christopher, Timothy, Michael and Jonathan, and a great-grandchild, Piper; his cousin, Nancy Conboy, and his companion, Peggy Simmons of Naples, Fla.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
