John Grammer was a tremendous friend and mentor whom I had the great pleasure to work with for many years in Grammer Associates, his post - Citi consulting and coaching firm. He shared freely of his great experience in those fields, his life lessons learned, and his vast experience in the world. He was an extraordinary "straight arrow" who never flinched from telling you the truth, whether you wanted to hear it or not, and in doing so would help you find your own best path forward. One could always trust him to be honest and forthright, and to care about others. He also had a wonderful spirit of adventure. Once when we were discussing a possible training assignment in the Sudan in the capital city, he at once said he wanted to explore the part of the country that was at that time in armed conflict. Fortunately the assignment failed to materialize, but we did others together that were exciting and fun. He loved to find the road less traveled. And the journey with John would never be unexciting.
John was also a great family man, and frequently spoke about Mary-Anne and his children, especially about John-Lawrence, who followed his footsteps to Harvard. He was very proud of them. I offer them my deepest condolences for their loss. He also was a devout religious man, and spoke often of his church. I admired greatly his strength, honesty and goodness, and will miss his caring and friendship. May he rest in peace, and and be with us in spirit always.
