John A. Set

1937 - 2018

John Set, 80, of Richmond, MA, passed away on May 5, 2018 at Springside Nursing Home in Pittsfield, MA.

A memorial service will be held at The Richmond Congregational Church, 1515 State Road, Richmond, MA. The service will be held at 10AM on June 16, 2018. The interment will be at the Riverbend Cemetery , 117 Beach Street, Westerly, RI on June 28,2018 at 11 AM.

John was born in Hong Kong to the late Chew Jung and Toy Wan Lee on September 9, 1937. He immigrated to the United States in 1946 to reside with his father in Astoria, NY. He graduated from William Cullen Bryant High School in 1956. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force after graduation and he was honorably discharged in 1962.

He took college courses majoring in industrial design. He worked in varying industries ranging from advertising to antique restoration.

He moved to North Adams in 1984 which brought him closer to those things enjoyed the most; art, classical music and down hill skiing. He went to work for an energy audit state run program called Mass Save. John then formed his own home inspection business and became a certified Lead Paint Inspector and licensed de-leading inspector. He was called upon by home owners from all across the state. It was a profession that he was very proud of and did well up until he became ill in 2014. He met his future wife, Sally Watts of Agawam, in 1986. They resided between North Adams and Agawam until they purchased their present home in Richmond , MA in 1998.

In Richmond, John was able to continue his business and his love of the many arts offered here. He was an active member of the church, helping with the tag sales, taking part in the mystery dinners, and was on the board of trustees. He took great pride in our home and our pets, loving both very much.

John is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sara ( Sally) Set; his sisters Mrs. Louise Pang of Nanuet, NY and Mrs. Kathy Lee of Burbank, CA; brothers Yet Soon Jung of Staten Island, NY and Yet Yee Jung of Elizabeth, NJ; eight nephews; seven nieces; 12 great nephews; and fifteen great nieces.
