Joseph Cannon Obituary





Mr. Joseph M. Cannon, 85, of New Haven, CT passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2016.

Born in Pittsfield on January 14, 1931 the son of Joseph and Margaret Shea Cannon, he was a 1948 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

After working for a local bank for a brief period, Mr. Cannon was employed at the former Curtis Hotel in Lenox, after which he moved to Florida where he was again employed in the hotel industry. He settled in New Haven, Connecticut where he was concierge at the former Park Plaza Hotel. After retirement he was employed at Whitney Grove Square as a security guard for Yale University. Because of the location of his apartment and his daily visits to the local restaurants and coffee shops, Mr. Cannon became well known in downtown New Haven. When living in Pittsfield he was a communicant of the former St. Mary the Morning Star Church.

He is survived by a brother, John F. Cannon and his longtime partner, Teresa Bragdon of Lee; a nephew, Michael Cady of Pittsfield and two nieces, Kathie DiNicola of Dalton and Melissa Cady of Hinsdale. He also leaves his longtime close friend and driver, Ron Kortsep of New Haven. Joe was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Cady of Dalton.

Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Mr. Joseph M. Cannon will be Thursday, December 15, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield MA with the Rev. A. Peter Gregory, pastor of St. Charles Church, officiating. Burial will follow alongside his parents in St. Joseph Cemetery.

There will be an hour of visitation prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund, care of the Dwyer Funeral Home, in his memory.
