Katharyn Barnes Obituary

Mrs. Katharyn "Trina" Barnes, 85, of Richmond, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025. Born in Pittsfield, MA, on November 22, 1939, daughter of the late Ralph Gardner, Sr., and Katharyn Ryan Scago, she graduated from St. Joseph High School with the class of 1957.

Trina worked at the former A.H. Rice Silk Mill where she met her husband, Bob. After her children started school Trina worked for the town of Richmond, as a Home Health Aide and later as the "Lunch Lady" at Richmond School. She most recently worked at Clean Machines, helping her husband run his business.

Among many things, Trina enjoyed Sunday dinners with her family, reading mystery novels, trips to the beaches of Little Compton RI and Ogunquit ME. She loved baking her famous chocolate chip cookies--almost as much as everybody else looked forward to eating them!

Trina is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Robert Barnes, whom she married December 7, 1973. She leaves behind her daughter Lauran Laurent and husband Allen of Pittsfield, MA, and her son Scott Barnes and wife Jennifer of Corinth, ME. Trina is survived by her brother Skip Gardner, sisters-in-law, Judy Scago, Sherry Graybeal, Nancy Gardner, Pat Gardner, Georgia Gardner, and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind the lights of her life, granddaughters Riley Laurent and Josephine Barnes.

Trina was predeceased by her siblings, Patricia Anderson, Dorothy Cowan, Elizabeth Underhill, Charolette Sauve, Ellen Caffrey, Ralph Gardner, Bill Gardner and Frank Scago.

Sending love and prayers for the family , so sorry for your loss. What an amazing person, lunch lady and neighbor she was . I would ride my bike and visit and spend time with her when I was younger. She had that bright smile and wonderful laugh everyone needed in life .

I got to know Trina during my weekly visits to the laundromat. Always a great conversationalist, the hours flew by making the visits really enjoyable. She was a great lady and truly genuine-just what the world needed.
