Kathy McClure Obituary

Kathy McClure, 69, a lifelong resident of Dalton, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, at Mount Greylock Extended care, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Pittsfield on May 30, 1957, to James and Marion McClure (nee, Bowerman), she was the eldest of three siblings and a 1975 graduate of Wahconah Regional High School. She earned her nursing degree in 1977 from Berkshire Community College and began a distinguished career that spanned more than four decades.

Kathy started as a critical care nurse at Mount Sinai Hospital in Miami, where she served for nearly ten years. In the late 1980s, she returned to Dalton and joined Berkshire Medical Center, continuing her work in critical care until her retirement in 2019. Known for her extraordinary compassion and skill, she was deeply committed to her patients, earning multiple awards including Nurse of the Year for her outstanding care and dedication.

Family was the heart of Kathy's life. As the eldest sibling, she was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and caregiver. She lovingly tended to her parents in their later years, nursing her father through COVID so he could remain comfortably in the family home. Her infectious laugh, warm presence, and unwavering devotion made her the cornerstone of both her immediate and extended family. Growing up, she cherished Saturday spaghetti dinner nights at her grandparents' house, surrounded by aunts, uncles, and cousins-a tradition that shaped her lifelong love of family gatherings. Proud of her Irish heritage, she carried that spirit of warmth and resilience throughout her life.

Kathy had a boundless sense of adventure. An avid world traveler, she explored Ireland, Scotland, England, Egypt, Italy, Spain, and many other destinations. Her trips were filled with joyful stories. In Ireland, Kathy was one of the first cousins to search out and find McClure's Pub in Carndonagh, Donegal. A link to the family in the Old Country that is still cherished today and on into the next generation.

Kathy loved her family vacations to Hampton Beach, NH and the outer banks of North Carolina including Cape Hatteras and Corola.

At home, her beloved cocker spaniels and springer spaniels were constant companions, bringing her endless joy.

Kathy remained vibrant and healthy until a stroke four years ago required nursing home care, where she continued to touch the lives of those around her with her grace and spirit.

We would like to thank 2 South nursing staff and her favorite Occupational Therapist, Bethany, at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility in Pittsfield.

She is survived by her mother, Marion McClure, with whom she shared a home, her siblings, James McClure Jr. of Raleigh NC and Maureen McClure (Michael) of Dalton, MA, and many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her father James McClure on December 17, 2020.

Kathy was an excellent, above average nurse who cared for people in the critical care setting with the highest degree of standards . I knew Kathy most of my career and respected her so much , applying my own set of standards after hers hoping to be that kind of nurse. When you thought to yourself " if I was ever very sick , I would want Kathy to care for me" it was truly a loss for the hospital when Kathy retired before COVID I will miss you Kathy. God will bless you with special graces Love Teresa
