Marya R. Carey Ugelow

1953 - 2016 Marya "Mary" R. Carey Ugelow, 62, of Honolulu, HI, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on April 15, 2016. Marya was born June 9, 1953 and raised in Pittsfield, the daughter of Rosemary H. Carey and the late Robert R. Carey. She graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1971. Marya, exceptionally brilliant, continued her education amongst the first class of women at Williams College. After Williams, in 1980, she earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Pharmacy at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy (The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia). She was a member of the Rho Chi, an internationalhonor society forpharmaceutical sciences. After working a brief time as a pharmacist in Stamford, CT, she moved to Honolulu. In Hawaii she was a pharmacist for Kaiser Medical Center for 20+ years before retiring. She met her husband of 32 years, Dr. Stephen Ugelow at Kaiser. Her interests included traveling with her husband touring Europe, Africa and Asia. Although they went on many trips, France was always her favorite. Marya was an avid reader and history buff, particularly family history. She loved cooking, theater and music especially Motown and the NYC jazz scene. Marya was dedicated to serving her family, working nights for years and raising her step children. She also cherished her relationships with her grandparents, aunt, parents, siblings, nieces and nephews. Always keeping the needs and wants of others in mind; she loved to surprise her relatives with gifts. She is survived by her husband, Stephen Ugelow of Honolulu and step-children, Jennifer Ugelow of Detroit and Alexander Ugelow of Los Angeles, her mother, Rosemary Hughes Carey of Pittsfield, sisters Ann Carey and Kathy Carey of Pittsfield, sister Janet Carey Bentz and her husband, Dale Bentz of Frederick, MD, brother, David Carey of Carlsbad, CA, she also leaves nieces and nephews, Catherine Pratt and her husband Michael Pratt of Holyoke, Micaela Goodrich of Pittsfield, Daniel Goodrich and his wife Jillian of Fitchburg, Shreya Carey of Carlsbad, Janak Carey of San Diego, Isaiah and Samuel Bentz of Frederick, MD an two great nieces, Siena and Jacqueline Pratt of Holyoke. FUENRAL NOTICE: Last month, there was funeral service in Honolulu, Hawaii. There will be a memorial Mass, Saturday, May 28 th at 9:00 AM at St Mark's Church in Pittsfield with Rev. John C.
