Matthew Oparowski 1923 - 2008 CHESHIRE Matthew Joseph "Mickey" Oparowski, 85, of 139 Willow Cove Road, died Saturday afternoon, Aug. 30, at his home. He was born in Adams on June 10, 1923, son of the late Henry and Louise (Zwolen) Oparowski, and attended Adams schools. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army in the China-Burma-India Theater, from 1943 until his Honorable Discharge in 1946. Mr. Oparowski worked as a machine operator at the former W.R. Grace Co. in Adams for 40 years, until retiring in August of 1986. He was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Cheshire. He was a life Member of Adams Post 160 American Legion and Burnette-Bednarz Post 1995 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Adams. He enjoyed hunting, fresh and saltwater fishing, gardening, hiking, mushrooming and wood crafting. His wife, the former Stella Jzyk, whom he married on May 10, 1947, died on January 26, 2006. He leaves a son, William J. Oparowski and his wife, Lynn, of Chicopee; a daughter, Nancy L. Oparowski, of Cheshire; a sister, Blanche Morin of Adams; two grandsons, Shaun Oparowski and his wife, Molly McCarthy, of Bedford, N.H., and Todd Oparowski of Denver, Colo.; two great grandchildren, Cormac and Hannah; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Walter and Stanley Oparowski, and by two sisters, Ann Gallagher and Mary Palmer. FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 5th, at 11:00 AM in Cheshire Cemetery. Rev. David Raymond, Pastor of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, will officiate. There are no calling hours.
