Mildred Scace Manzolini Helfer 1923 - 2011 PITTSFIELD Mildred Scace Manzolini Helfer, 87, of 220 Cloverdale St. died Tuesday afternoon, July 5, 2011, at Springside of Pittsfield Health Care Facility where she had resided for the past two weeks. Born in Pittsfield on July 6, 1923, the daughter of Frank J and Hannah Tierney Scace, she was a 1942 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She was a resident of Pittsfield for most of her life and had lived in Vero Beach, Fla., for 28 years. Mrs. Helfer was employed as a plant assigner for Bell South Telephone, retiring in 1984 after 28 years of service. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, and the Florida Orchid and Fern Societies. Mildred was an avid gardener. Her first husband, Charles Manzolini Sr., died in 1993. Her second husband, Joseph T. Helfer, died in 1999. She leaves three sons, Charlie and his wife, Rose, of Knoxville, Tenn., Peter and his wife, Marsha, of Pittsfield, and Roger and his wife, Pamela, of Richmond; a brother, Edward Scace of Roswell, Ga.; a sister Louise Filkins of Pittsfield; a stepdaughter, Cathy Savlov, and her husband, Jeff, of Las Vegas, Nev.; nine grandchildren and 15 great -grandchildren, and a son-in-law, Doug Arnold of Vero Beach, Fla. She was predeceased by a daughter, Joan Arnold; by brothers, William, Franklin, Robert and Warren Scace, and by sisters, Ruth Carpenter and Mary Ketchum FUNERAL NOTICE: Mildred Scace Manzolini Helfer died in Pittsfield on Tuesday, July 5. Funeral services and burial will be private. There will be no calling hours.
