Mildred Tinger Obituary

Mrs. Mildred (Mickey) W. Tinger, 98, of Canaan, NY, died September 7, 2022 while residing at Berkshire Place in Pittsfield, MA for the past 11 months.

She was born in Adams, MA on July 8, 1924, daughter of Frank and Josephine (Ramocki) Wandrei. She attended Adams schools, graduating from the former Adams High School, Class of 1942. After graduation, she worked at the General Electric in Pittsfield.

On November 24, 1945, she married the love of her life, Alfred Tinger, in the former St. Thomas Church in Adams.

Soon after starting their young family, Al and Mickey moved to Queechy Lake in Canaan, NY. For several years, and while raising her young family, Mickey opened and operated the Iron Kettle Dairy Bar on Queechy Lake.

In 1962, she and Alfred purchased from family The Red Inn on Queechy Lake and renamed it the Queechy Lake Inn. Shortly thereafter, in 1964, they built the Queechy Lake Motel.

The Queechy Lake Inn became a very popular dining destination and received the highest accolades by many food critics including Gourmet Magazine.

In 1970, Mildred and her husband purchased the Stony Kill Restaurant a short distance from Queechy Lake.

Later in 1972, they sold the Queechy Lake Inn and then in 1986 they sold the Queechy Lake Motel and Restaurant and pursued a life of retirement to spend more time with family.

Mickey and Al enjoyed traveling to Maine, Wildwood Crest NJ, and Florida as well as taking trips to the casinos. Mickey always lost, but Al always won. She was an avid reader all her life. She constantly had a book in her hand even when watching TV. She enjoyed her country home in Canaan watching the wildlife in the yard all the time. She was a wonderful, kind and loving person, who will be missed by her family and friends.

Mickey is survived by her younger sister, Florence Jennings of Adams, MA and her three loving children, Alan Tinger, Linda (Jack) Franchebois and Paul Tinger (Iris); six grandchildren: Aimee Munday (Matt), Nicole (David) Hausman, Cherie (Ryan) Murach, Andrew (Jenna) Tinger, Lauren (Marc) Tinger, Emily Tinger; five great-grandchildren: Lucas R., Lucas J., Abigail, Ayla, Carson and a new one expected any day!, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband and eldest brother, Frank Wandrei, his wife Wanda and her brother-in-law, John Jennings.

She was very grateful to her daughter and son-in-law for the loving care she received at home for over 9 years as well as the continued help and support she received from her sons.

Mildred always had unconditional love for her family. They meant the world to her and she and Al enjoyed every minute spent with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A very special thank to dear friends of Mickey: Barbara Kipp who been Her Best Friend for many yrs. She is and always will be a part of our family. Carol Van Deusen who always sent wonderful encouraging news and up-dates that Mom looked forward to reading. Thank you both so very much.

Her family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Berkshire Place and Hospice Care Of The Berkshires for the exceptional care of Mildred over the past 11 months.

Visitation hours will be held Friday, September 16 from 1:30-2:15pm at French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Ave., Chatham, NY, with a memorial service starting at 2:15. Burial will be private.

Sending condolences to the Tinger Family.
In my childhood I have great memories of going to Mickey's Iron Kettle dairy bar and lots of delicious meals at the Inn.
My parents, Ernest " Bus" and Jean Loane spent many a memorable night out at the Inn, enjoying Mickey and Al's company.
They both gave a thumbs up to my Dad buzzing the lake, not once but twice ! in a CL-44 plane.
Thinking of you all at this difficult time.
Warm regards,
Ernest W."Pete" and Mary Ann Loane

My family lived just down the road from Mickey, Al, Socko, Linda and Paul on Queechy Lake in the 60s & 70s. Al was my first boss at the Inn. I have many fond memories of the Tinger family. Linda was my sister's maid of honor! Our sincere condolences to the Tinger family. May Mickey rest in peace.
