Miriam D. Sternagle

1944 - 2025

Miriam D. Sternagle, 81, of Braintree, Massachusetts, slipped into the arms of the Lord in early July 2025. Born on January 8, 1944, to Alton Murray Sternagle, Sr. and Mary Elsie Llewellyn Sternagle of Middlefield, MA, Miriam lived a vibrant and meaningful life dedicated to creativity, compassion, and advocacy.

Miriam graduated from Chester High School in 1960 and earned her commercial art degree from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 1964. She worked for many years in commercial design in the Boston area before moving to Braintree, where she continued to inspire those around her with her marvelous artistic talent and keen eye for detail.

Miriam was a devoted aunt, sister, daughter, and friend known for her advocacy, deep concern for the disadvantaged, and profound love of animals, particularly cats who were the heart of her home. Her abiding love for fashion and design was matched by her enthusiasm for politics, both local and national. She was a gifted writer and an expert Scrabble player.

Miriam was predeceased by her parents, brother, Alton M. Sternagle, Jr., and sister-in-law. She is survived by her niece, Lara Larson, and her nephew, Mark Sternagle.

A memorial service will be held at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Middlefield, MA on October 21, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Miriam's name to no-kill animal shelters, such as Scituate Animal Shelter [scituateanimalshelter.org] in Scituate, Massachusetts, or organizations advocating against animal testing or cruelty, such as the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals [mspca.org], reflecting her lifelong dedication to animal welfare.
