I first began working for Nancy and Roland Fitzroy about 29 years ago as a much younger self employed neighborhood contractor. I spent many, many days working on various projects around their grand property and got to know the both of them quite well. After Roland passed I took over more chores and have mowed her lawn many hundreds of times, changed out hundreds of lightbulbs, repairs ceilings, garage doors.....whatever I could do.
Nancy watched my 3 sons grow up as we lived around the corner from her and my sons all did grounds work for her when around. Nancy watched me get older as always enjoyed our kitchen conversations as I pulled off outer layers roasting in the inside temperature. She shared a lot about herself to me and we had a very open relationship I appreciated her bold and direct nature and was always honored to give her the hug she always asked for.
I learned that she passed the day after her her service and it was heartbreaking to me that I was not there, I will find some other way to greive her. To the world Nancy was brilliant and a pioneer, to me she was part of my family and I was the "kid" around the corner that brought a laugh and a hug when I cleaned out the roof drains. My wife Lynn who did her gardening for years and I will miss her very much and I will continue to care about her much loved Niskayuna home as I work in our neighborhood. George Martin.

On behalf of the Chemical and Biological Engineering Department, I would like to express my heartfelt condolences on the passing of Dr. Fitzroy. As the first woman to graduate from our department, Dr. Fitzroy occupies a unique and important position in our history. Her varied and impressive career highlights the opportunities afforded by a chemical engineering degree and continues to serve as an inspiration to all our students and especially the young women who are currently enrolled in our program. In this 200th anniversary of RPI and the 110th anniversary of our department, Dr. Fitzroy's life and legacy will feature prominently in the stories we tell to all who visit us.

What a woman, a pioneer in so many ways!!! I didn't know Mrs. Fitzroy but now wish I had met her. A remarkable woman leaving a wonderful legacy.

I had the privilege of meeting Nancy Fitzroy one day in the mid '70's while having lunch in the cafeteria at the General Electric Corporate Research & Development Center in Niskayuna. We were introduced by Dr. Roger Kambour, a senior scientist and colleague in the Chem Lab at the time. I remember being particularly impressed with her pluck as demonstrated in being the first female engineering graduate at RPI, my alma mater, but also by her exploits in aviation. (I was a budding glider pilot at the time.) I regret that I never had another opportunity to meet Dr. Fitzroy. But, in that brief encounter she definitely made an indelible impression as a no-nonsense, straight ahead individual who just didn't settle for second best. The many singular achievements listed in her obituary truly bear testament to her profound legacy. To her family and friends I offer my heartfelt sympathy.
