Randolph Schrade Obituary

Randolph Robert Alexander Schrade passed away in Cape Cod, MA on July 2, 2022. He spent the last two and a half years on the Cape, where he had found peace and rest during the Summers since 1991. Randy was born in New York City September 5, 1961to Rolande Young Schrade and Robert Warren Schrade.

Randy graduated from Yale University in 1983, with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music (concentration in Piano, Theory, and Composition). His artistry as a pianist will be remembered for his performances as soloist and with family members. In the early 1980's Randy spent one year as a musician in residence and music mentor in Caracas, Venezuela, followed by a year in Germany studying Beethoven's manuscripts. He met his wife Vera Holschneider in Hamburg, and they married in 1990. Randy worked as Orchestra Director at the Allen Stevenson School in New York City for nearly three decades. In addition, he taught Music Theory for several years at the Manhattan School of Music Preparatory Division. Until 2017, Randy also served in the Berkshire music festival "Sevenars", which had been established by his parents in 1968. Throughout the years, he enjoyed sharing insights and inspiration with countless piano enthusiasts and dedicated students. In his spare time Randy completed writing a book on the Beatitudes (the eight blessings of Jesus), yet to be published. Besides listening to music and being with loved ones, Randy thrived in the solitude of nature and admiring animals. He loved swimming in the pond on Cape Cod and watching the sunset anywhere in the world. Scrabble and Chess delighted us over the past year, and he would never miss an opportunity to educate.

Randy is survived by his wife, Vera Holschneider, and daughter, Miranda Schrade. He is also survived by his sisters, Rolisa Schrade, Rhonda Lee Schrade, Rorianne Schrade (Jeffrey Williams), niece Lynelle James (Patrick Duessel) with baby Robert, and nephew Christopher James. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Robelyn Schrade-James (David James).

The last goodbyes have been held within the immediate circle. A celebration of Randy's life will be scheduled at a later time.
