Russell E. Davies
1920 - 2010 NORTH ADAMS Russell Edward Davies died June 27 in Danielson, Conn. He was born in North Adams on Sept. 8, 1920. He lost his wife of 64 years and 10 months, Joan Mina Davies, in 2008, and had been in failing health since that time.
He leaves his son, Curtis Russell Davies of Egg Harbor City, N.J.; and granddaughters, Monique Opal of Stafford, Va., and Daniele Marie of Australia. He was the son of Roger and Edith Davies of Blackington section of North Adams. His sister predeceased him in 1999 after a long illness. Her family, a nephew and two nieces, live in the Springfield area.
He was the quarterback of the Drury Eleven Football Team of 1937 that went to an undefeated season and were the first to use the "Blue Devil" as a mascot. He attended Preparatory School in New York State and the University of Alabama before enlisting during the Second World War. He served as a Navy pilot flying PBY and PV aircraft as a submarine hunter off the US and South American coast. He retired from the reserves with the rank of Lieutenant, J.G. in the '60s. After returning from the war, he ran his father's store, and then became a salesman with American Tobacco and Remington Rand in the '50s and '60s. He later became a credit manger for J. C. Penney's and Coca-Cola. After he and his wife retired, they spent many days in Las Vegas enjoying the gambling and lights of the city. They were, until the end, a happy and devoted couple.

I am very sorry to learn of both your mother's and father's passing. I met them both of a professional capacity and they were truly two of my favorite people to see. I had no idea until just now that your mother had passed in '08. They will both be missed. May God bless you in your time of loss.
