Shane Cassavant Obituary

Shane Cassavant, 49, tragically passed away on October 12, 2023 due to injuries he sustained after being hit by a motor vehicle while working.

Shane was born on April 17, 1974 in Pittsfield, MA. He spent the majority of his life living in Pittsfield prior to moving to Lanesborough. He moved to Lanesborough to have the workshop of his dreams in his own front yard. Shane was a 1992 graduate of Pittsfield High School. The only thing more brilliant than Shane's blue eyes was his mind. Shane was inquisitive all of his life and continued to learn through life experiences. By trade, Shane was a woodworker. Many peoples' homes and businesses throughout Western Mass and beyond have benefited from Shane's talent. Whether it was custom made cabinets, furniture, toys, or decorations, Shane was able to make or fix anything.

Shane had many talents and interests in addition to woodworking. As a young child, Shane excelled at archery. He also had an interest in fishing which became his passion as he grew older. One of Shane's favorite past times was to be on his boat fishing at the lake, river or ocean. Although Shane liked fishing, he gained more enjoyment by being able to provide that experience to others. In addition to fishing, Shane tested the limits while he was on his ATVs, motorcycle, snowmobile or snowboard.

Shane greeted everyone with his huge smile, but his heart was bigger than his smile. He was generous with his time and knowledge. Shane was willing and able to help out any friend or family member who contacted him. He was interested in others and wanted to support them in any way that he could. Shane was not one to sit for long before he had his next idea that he wanted to pursue. He had a work ethic like no other and made sure everything that he did was done to his idea of perfection.

Shane leaves behind his father, James, with whom he loved to fish. He leaves his sister, Jaime, with whom he enjoyed spending holidays and vacations. He leaves his nephew, Darryn, with whom he shared many of the same interests, especially working with 3D printers. He leaves his paternal grandmother, several aunts, uncles and cousins. Shane also leaves countless friends and his companion. Shane left his cat, Chubs, who was his pride and joy. Chubs passed away on October 16, 2023 due to diabetes. Chubs had a long and happy life with Shane.

Shane was predeceased by several family members who had a profound impact on his life. His mother, Marcia Cassavant, with whom he enjoyed sharing stories of his adventures. His Granny, Dorothy DiOrio, who he spent time with at least weekly just enjoying one another's company. Shane was also one of Granny's daily caregivers in her final months and days. His Gramp, Raymond DiOrio, who taught Shane many things as a child and then Shane taught him as he became older. Shane's uncle, Richard DiOrio, who spent time encouraging and supporting Shane's hobbies as a child and an adult.

Calling hours will be held at Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield, MA on October 25, 2023 from 4-8pm. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Marcia Cassavant Scholarship which will be eventually amended to include Shane.

James and Jamie. This is a shock and a huge loss for everyone who has ever been lucky enough to know or casually encounter Shane. He enjoyed life like no one else I've ever known. Without a word, That friendly welcoming smile told everyone, even total strangers that they were in the company of an honest, sincere and genuinely good person. I will only have fond memories of Shane. Great person who loved life, gone far too soon. Unfortunately, Grief is the price we pay for love. Peace be with Shane, and to all who knew and loved him.

It´s easy to see the profound impact he had and has left on those he knew well; he will forever be in their hearts. My deepest sympathy to Shanes´ family and to his many friends and acquaintances.

The world lost a great one.... My heartfelt condolences go to his family and friends
I met Shane back in the day when he use to come into Sidepocket Billiards to shoot pool and hang out all the time. He was always smiling and wanting to get to know everyone. He had a very welcoming friendly presence that will be missed...
When I ran into him 20 yrs later in Lanesboro it was nice to see that he was still the same wonderful person I knew from Side Pocket but all grown up.
RIP Shane.

Jaime and Jim,

We are so sorry for the loss of Shane. Shane was the very best kind of friend, he was a true friend and no matter what has happened over the years he was someone you could just pick up where you left off with. As we sit here and try to wrap our heads around this tremendous loss, our memories of Shane are what is keeping us comforted and smiling through our tears. So many good times spent with Shane. So many crazy adventures, which he was always up for. Although our hearts are broken, we know he is now with Marcia and in God´s plan which we cannot fully comprehend, this is where he needed to be, I am sure she was there to welcome him with open arms. The pain is from all the love we feel for him. We will always remember him, he will always be a part of our hearts. He was so special and loved. Our deepest condolences.

Our sincere condolences to Jim and Jaime in the loss of someone so very dear to them. We have so many memories of this sweet, kind boy who lived next door to us for all of his childhood. In fact, I had left Shane a message a couple of weeks ago to ask him if he could help me repair my dining room table that had broken. He was planning on coming in the next few days to repair my table. This world has lost a very special person that cannot be replaced to those that loved him. My memories bring me back to birthday parties for my children with Shane and Jaime in attendance. I also saw the love he had for his Granny that he took out to breakfast almost every week. I would see them out everywhere together. I know Jaime and Jim´s loss and I would like them to know I am here for them in anything they need. Love you Shane. I know you have been reunited with your dear Mom, Granny and Grandpa.

I have always felt at times like this there is so little anyone can say.
For there are no words that have ever been invented to fit the loss of a loved one.
But one thing for sure is Shane friendship to many is one thing I will always remember.
With Sincere Sympathy,
