Shaun Larkin Obituary
1956-2013 Shaun "Jake" Larkin, 57, of 120 Warren Avenue, a lifelong resident of Dalton, died Monday, September 30, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family and many friends. Born in Pittsfield on April 1, 1956, a son of the late Edward P. and Elizabeth Sullivan Larkin, he was educated in Dalton schools and was a 1974 graduate of Wahconah Regional High School. Jake was employed by Moody Energy of Dalton where he was an Oil Burner Technician for twenty years. During the 1970s, he had worked for Eaton Paper Company in Pittsfield. He was also a bartender at the Hard Hat Bar and Grill in Dalton for many years. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion. A musician for more than thirty years, Jake loved music and guitars , and played with the Jake Larkin Band, Parrott Pie, and the Summit Hill Band. Jake is survived by a son, Matthew J. Larkin, of Dalton; two brothers, Peter J. Larkin and his wife, Antonina, of Westerly, R.I., Jamie W. Larkin and his wife, Jane, of Washington, Mass., two sisters, Mary Ellen Palmer of Dalton, and Alice E. Everhart and her husband, Chris, of Pittsfield; his ten nieces and nephews, T.J. Larkin of Nashville, Tenn., Elizabeth Larkin of Atlanta, Ga., Alice Barry Larkin, Colin Larkin, Sean Larkin, Lily Palmer, and Ryan Palmer, all of Dalton, Claire Everhart and Ian Everhart, both of Pittsfield, and Eric Lampro of Boston; his great niece and great nephew, Bella and Hunter; as well as his best friend, Dave "Gus" Brigley, of Dalton and also his beloved dog, Maggie. He was recently pre-deceased by a brother, Barry Larkin, late of Dalton. FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours for Shaun "Jake" Larkin will be held Thursday, October 3, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton. A prayer service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev Christopher A. Malatesta, Pastor of St. Agnes Church, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Jake may be made to the Dalton Fire Department or to the American Legion Building Fund both in care of the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.

There were 2 great people that will be miss in this world but enjoyed in Heaven!!! My sympathy goes out to the family,with multiple losses. I will never forget Jake or Barry.Last year while visiting, I ran in to Barry,at the Home Club and talked for a while.I had not seen him in years.I had no idea it would be the last time I saw him.Jake was a big part of Dalton.He was a big part of my teenage years,and all the places we hung out. I was always safe at the Hard Hat ,with Jake behind the bar.When I return to visit in a week or 2,it will not be the same place with out Jake and Barry.

Jake was one of the kindest, happy-go-lucky guys I've ever known.....always a smile and a kind word....Dalton has lost a truly great citizen. My deepest sympathies go out the to the entire Larkin family.

Jakes Family & friends, We were very shocked over Jakes passing. He is no longer in pain, which I know he hid it well. We saw him last summer down at OBX & he was in good spirits & enjoyed himself. Joe & Corey, good friends to Jake, will especially miss him. But know he has completed his journey & now will shine down on us.

I'm saddened by Jake's passing He was the embodiment of all of the best features of the Dalton persona. He was honest, direct and engaging and if he liked you, he treated you like family. I'm a few years older and have lived a distance away, but anytime we met over the years, he always made me feel like I was that long lost friend he was hoping to see. I'd like to think that Dalton has been enriched by the example that he set. I can't help but think it has.

My last conversation with Jake was about life issues. We talked about his family especially his brother. Wonderfully witty and generally just a sweetheart of a guy. I will miss him. I had the privilege of being Jake's neighbor on Warren Ave. for nearly 7 yrs , then Jake moved to my house after I left! He was always friendly, helpful & fun to be around! He was a big part of the neighborhood & loved by all! I know the people in Dalton have lost a wonderful citizen. RIP Jake & thanks for the memories!

Certainly a very sad loss. Jake will probably always be remembered as the greatest bartender in Dalton's Hard Hat barroom history. He was a story teller, musician, funny man, good guy, etc. He surely befitted the image of the long-haired country boy "rock n'roller" of the 1970's. So long my great old friend.

I knew Shaun as I work at his doctor's office. I enjoyed seeing him as he always had a smile on his face and a story to tell. My condolences to the Larkin family. I met Jake at the doctor's office as I used to room him for the provider. He was always up-beat even at his lowest times. Always had a smile for me and some story to tell (which I always looked forward to as I never knew which adventure he would be telling me about). He was a kind gentle soul and made an impression on me. Even when things looked bad he always had a way of making things sound okay. I will certaintly miss our visits but, will always remember what an awesome person Jake was. Now he can play his music all day and everyday. My sympathies.
