Susan N. Benz

ADAMS Mrs. Susan "Suzie" Neuman Benz, 100, of 28 Brookhaven Drive, Longmeadow, formerly a resident and native of Adams, died Monday, Jan. 25, at the Wingate Nursing Home of E. Longmeadow following a lengthy illness.Born in Adams, daughter of Conrad J. Neuman and Marguerite M. Molitar Neuman, she attended Renfrew Grammar School and matriculated with continuation classes with the former Adams High School, Class of 1927. She was employed in the former Berkshire Mills of Adams as a weaver in #3 Mill for 14 years, when she secured a position in the A&P Market on Summer Street for three years, leaving that pursuit to bring up a family.

Her deceased husband, John C. Benz, exchanged marriage vows with her on Aug. 19, 1929, in the former St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Adams with the Pastor, Rev. Father James Broderick, as the officiant. John passed on Feb. 3, 1983.

Suzie was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas church, the Adams Turners, and was also a member of St. Patrick's of E. Longmeadow.

She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Marion Misulis of Springfield, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by another daughter, Mrs. Nancy Ascioti, of East Longmeadow who died Dec. 4, 2009.

MEMORIAL NOTICE: A prayer service in celebration of her life, will be offered Friday, Jan. 29, at 11 a.m. at THE MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Liberty St., Adams, followed by interment in the family lot in Bellevue Cemetery alongside her beloved husband, John. The family will greet friends Friday morning from 9-11 a.m. in the funeral home prior to the service. Calling hours will be Thursday, Jan. 28, from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family suggests gifts be made to the Shriners Foundation through the McBride Funeral Service at 6 Liberty St., Adams, MA 01220.
