Sylvia Jakubowicz Obituary

Sylvia Jakubowicz, 88 of West Chester, PA died Monday, October 24, 2022, at the Brandywine Hall Care Center in West Chester.

She was the beloved wife of Robert Frank Jakubowicz, with whom she enjoyed 62 years of joy and love but never an argument.

She is survived by her husband as well as her four children and eight grandchildren: Peter Jakubowicz and his children Henry and Clementine of Oregon; Caroline Nelson, her husband Lance Nelson, and their children Casey, Claire, Grace, Lucy, and Aaron of Pennsylvania; Susan Jakubowicz of Massachusetts; and Maryann Caroll, her husband Robert Caroll, and their children Hope and Mae of Maine.

Born on March 7, 1934, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Basquin and the late Gertrude Taschereau Basquin.

Sylvia attended Woonsocket High School and graduated from Northeastern University, where she was a most discerning copy editor of the Northeastern Cauldron yearbook and the Huntington News and where she was swept off her feet by her husband in the stacks of the Boston Globe library. Sylvia worked as the secretary to the Sunday editor and penned numerous lifestyle columns for the Boston Globe.

Sylvia was famous for her baking skills as well as her ability to defend her prized sugar cookies from overeager grandchildren. She loved her family's many dogs and cats and never met a puzzle she did not enjoy. While she rolled her eyes often at the managerial decisions of the Boston Red Sox, she never had a bad word to say about Ted Williams or Dustin Pedroia. Sylvia was never happier than surrounded by her family on the Cape Cod National Seashore.

She was preceded in death by her sister Frances Blinkhorn and her infant son Frank Jakubowicz.

Interment will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Buzzards Bay.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter 875 Crane Avenue, Pittsfield, MA 01201.

Frank, Caroline, Maryann, and Susan-I am so sad to hear this news. We have so many fond memories of Sylvia. She often comes up in conversation with my girls fondly remembering the popsicles she´d always bring outside for them while they´d play on your old swingset. Such nice neighborhood memories. Sending your whole family our love and condolences. xoxo
