Thomas Hynes Obituary

Thomas Andrew Hynes, Jr, 77, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 6th in the home that he built in Lenox.

He was born in Pittsfield on August 11, 1946, son of the late Thomas A. and Julia (Waldron) Hynes.

As a youth, Tom marched with the Monarch Junior Drum & Bugle Corps. He continued to travel extensively to watch the top corps on the East Coast, especially the Hawthorne Caballeros Alumni. Tom studied cabinet making at Pittsfield High School and graduated with the Vocational Class of 1964. Tom served three tours of duty overseas with the US Navy Sea Bee's, two in Chu Lai & Da Nang Vietnam and one in Antarctica. Tom was a 1968 graduate of Mt Erebus Community College. While in the service, Tom received the following medals: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Two Stars, Fleet Marine Force Combat Insignia, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Devices, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon and the Antarctic Service Medal.

After the military, he started and ran his own concrete forming business for 50 years and was a member of the Carpenters Union for 60 years. Tom was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Group for over 50 years. He served as Co-Chairman of the Parish Council at St Mary the Morning Star Church and after moving to Lenox, was a long time communicant of St Ann's Church. Tom was a coach with USA Boxing and enjoyed coaching and training his sons. He also served as Captain of the 5 Chairs Jeopardy Team in the early 90's.

Tom leaves his wife of 51 years, Judy Kickery Hynes and their children, Amy Marie Cullett (Michael), Thomas Andrew Hynes III (Sharon), Joseph Ernest Hynes, Mary Christine Toole (Brendan) and Anne Elizabeth Pratt (Mitchell). Tom also leaves his prized 10 grandchildren, Emily & Michael Cullett, Benjamin & Charles Hynes, Madison & Tyler Hynes, Jack & Molly Toole and Vivian & Harvey Pratt. As well as his sisters, Ellen Hynes and Mary Hynes-Drumm; Brother, James Hynes; nieces, Megan Drumm (Dipesh) & Delfina and Nephew Tyler Hynes-Drumm. Tom was predeceased by his brother John Hynes.

Funeral Notice: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Ann's Church in Lenox. Calling hours will be Monday, March 11 from 4 - 6 pm at Roche Funeral Home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to Pregnancy Support Services of Berkshire County in care of Roche Funeral Home.

Judy and family I am presently in Columbia South America and I am truly saddened to receive this news. A finer man and a finer couple there has never been such a dedicated and loving fan of the Hawthorne Caballeros alumni. We loved seeing them at every show ,rehearsal that we had, on days of shows such dedication, truly indicates the high-level of quality ,commitment, support that he stood for.
