Danny "Dan" L. Deyo

Danny L. Deyo, age 73, a lifelong resident of Morley, passed away Saturday, November 6, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was born March 14, 1948 in Grand Rapids, the son of Frank and Alice (Smith) Deyo.
Dan graduated from Morley Stanwood High School in 1966 and began working for the Morley Area Fire Department and Morley Rescue. He continued his education at Ferris State College where he earned a Bachelor's of Science degree. Dan then went to work for his father, who owned and operated Frank's Sporting Goods in Morley; Dan eventually took over the business for several years. He followed with a 25 year and 10-month long career as a Paramedic for Mecosta County EMS. Dan was one of the founders of the first rescue units for the county.
Dan's career as a Firefighter spanned nearly 54 years, serving on the Morley Area Fire Department and Morley Rescue 4-5; he was Fire Chief for over 25 of those years. He also served on the Mecosta County Sheriff's Office Hover Craft Team, he was an EMT instructor for the State of Michigan and he worked on the 911 Tech Advisory Board.
Dan was a member of the Mecosta County Fire Training Association, the Mecosta County Fire Chief Association, the Mecosta County Medical First Responder Board and the Mecosta County Rod and Gun Club.
He was an avid sportsman; shooting guns, hunting, and fishing. Dan enjoyed riding motorcycles and dirt bikes and traveling in his camper with Mel. He also looked forward to attending Ferris State Bulldog Hockey games. If you knew Dan, you would know he liked shooting the breeze with his friends and family.
Dan was a beloved and valued member of the Morley Community and its surrounding areas where he will be forever remembered.
He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 14 years, Melanie of Morley; three children, Emilie (Jason) Black of Tustin, Ashley (Patrick) Hall of Lowell, Eric Deyo of Morley; three grandchildren, Clara Black, Caleb Black and Nolan Hall; his brother Robert (Vickie) Deyo of Morley; several nieces, nephews and the mother of his children to whom he was married for 28 years; Debra Pelkey of Harrison.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Frank Deyo Jr.
Masks are required for visitation and funeral services.
Funeral services will take place 2:30 p.m. Friday, November 12, 2021 at the Morley Stanwood High School Gymnasium. Dan will be laid to rest at Aetna Township Cemetery in Morley.
The family will greet friends on Thursday, November 11th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services (from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.), at the school on Friday. We are unable to accommodate early arrivals for visitation due to students exiting from school.
Memorial contributions may be made in Dan's name to Morley Area Fire Department and Morley Rescue.
