Richard "Dick" Clifford Donley, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on January 20, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on May 17, 1939, in Big Rapids, Michigan, Dick lived a life full of dedication and purpose.
Dick was known for his unwavering devotion to his family, his rich, resonant baritone voice, and his compassionate gentle spirit. A man of great integrity, he touched the lives of everyone who knew him and was a pillar of the community. Whether through his work, his community involvement, or his many cherished friendships, he left an indelible mark on the world.
Dedicated to providing the best possible education for all students, Dick spent 28 years in education as a teacher, coach, principal, and athletic director. After retiring from education, he continued to contribute by working for LOR Manufacturing in Weidman, where he was skilled in electronics assembly.
Dick was a member of the Weidman United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman on the Board of Trustees and as a member of the Pastor/Parish Relations committee. His faith and dedication to his church community were central to his life.
He also served his community through many other roles, including as a member of the MOCC Building Trades Advisory Council, the Weidman Lions Club, the Chippewa Hills Board of Education, and as a board member of the HomeWorks Tri-County People Fund. His commitment to making a difference extended far and wide.
Dick cherished the companionship of his dogs, enjoyed woodworking, his hobby farm, camping, fishing, and hunting; hobbies that brought him joy and reflected his love of nature and craftsmanship. "Digger" Donley was an all-stater for the 1957 Big Rapids Cardinals and then played for the University of Michigan men's basketball team from 1959 to 1961. He loyally followed every Michigan football and basketball game, "enthusiastically" cheering on his Wolverines.
