Alan Schuyler Obituary
October 6, 1952 - April 18, 2025
On Good Friday, April 18, 2025, Alan Schuyler left on his next great adventure. He loved to explore new places and treasured his wide and diverse network of relationships that stretched around the globe.
Alan John Schuyler was born on October 6, 1952, in Billings, Mont., and grew up with three brothers, Ron (Kathy), Jerry (Julie), Steve (Karen) and twin sisters, Karen (Miles) and Kris (Bob) on the family farm, first in Edgar and then in Roberts, Mont. His parents, Paul and Betty (predeceased) gave him deep roots and strong wings.
Alan graduated from Roberts High School in 1970. He went on to earn degrees in zoology and environmental engineering from Oregon State and Montana Tech, respectively. He spent his career working for ARCO which later became Conoco/Phillips as an environmental engineer. Most of his working career was in Alaska. He was very involved in the arts and opera community in Anchorage.
After he retired, Alan moved back to Roberts, to be near his aging parents. He became very involved in the Roberts and Red Lodge Community Foundations.
Alan was deeply invested in the lives of his nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. He attended their graduations, weddings and special occasions.
When he was diagnosed with brain cancer in June 2024, he chose to move to Pilgrim Place in Claremont, Calif., to live and to die. He lived this life with joy and curiosity, with the wisdom of Micah 6:8 as his guide: be just, be kind, be humble.
A memorial service is planned at the Roberts United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Monday, June 30th. For anyone that would like to view the service remotely, a couple of weeks prior to the service instructions will be posted on Alan's Caring Bridge site or you can contact a family member.
In lieu of flowers for anyone that would like to donate, please consider the Roberts Community Foundation, the Red Lodge Community Foundation, the Roberts United Methodist church, the Red Lodge Community Church, UCC or to Alan's hospice care giver: VNA Care, 10350 Commerce Center Drive Suite A-250, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730.
