I've been thinking about him lately because I hadn't seen him on Facebook for awhile. I'm a Toronado guy. I'm on my 12th first gen car. I noted how it's a crime to put a vinyl top in an early Toro because it ruins that beautiful roof line. He appreciated that and told me that I understood the design. R.I.P. Oh master of design !

I only know Mr. North through his work, as I own a 1966 Toronado. He appears to have lived a life we can all admire, both personally and professionally. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. May you take a small measure of comfort from the fact that he touched so many lives.

I had the honor of working with David while he served on our board at Billings Clinic (Deaconess) Foundation. He and Pat were dedicated members of our board family during his board service and beyond. They leave a wonderful legacy for our organization and community.

I had the honor of meeting Mr. North at the Oldsmobile Centennial Celebration in Lansing, Michigan in 1997 My '67 Toronado was featured during the last day's event at the factory and Mr. North spent a great deal of time talking with me and looking at the car. He was so kind and gracious, taking time out of the busy event to answer my questions and reflect on the car's design. Sadly, it was the only time I met him, but what an honor - one I will never forget. Mr. North, your influence is obvious but your kindness and joy you brought to those of us fortunate to enjoy your work is something rare and unique. Thank you, and rest in peace sir.

I remember the first Toronado my family got. I remember being 10 years old in 1984 and getting in the spacious front seat of that car and seeing power windows! It was the most luxurious car we had at that point. Wasn't a fan of the color, but that can and did change. I loved that car so much I begged my parents to let me drive it when I was 16. At that point, it's 1990 and I was going to school with kids that brand new cars from their parents. My car was a boat to them. I didn't care. I thought she was grand. My parents purchased a second Toronado and it became my spare when my master-cylinder was giving me fits - which was OFTEN. I now own both of them - my pride and joy - outside of my kids who both will ultimately inherit these cars. Thank you for your contribution to Oldsmobile and Toronados. I'm in Gillette, WY - wish I'd have been able to meet you in person. An incredible and underrated muscle car, in my opinion!

Sincere condolences to the family. David North made outstanding contributions to automotive design and his immortal legacy will be that of an accomplished designer, fine and ethical businessman, mentor to generations in the industry and an open, accessible friend to all in the car hobby who came to know him. Last year my 1966 Toronado was featured at the ArtCenter College of design Alumni event in tribute to David. Many kind words were spoken fondly about him there.
