Dean Dillon Obituary

WOLF POINT - Dean Clark Dillon, age 56, longtime farmer and businessman of Wolf Point and Colstrip, passed away along with his son Dennis in a parachute plane crash on Monday, June 28, 2004, at the family farm in McCone County. He was born May 3, 1948, to Clarence and Beatrice Gagne Dillon in Wolf Point.
Dean attended Sunnyside Grade School and graduated from Wolf Point High School. He then attended Wahpeton School of Science, studying diesel mechanics. He enjoyed the sport of boxing, becoming a Golden Glove Boxer. After graduating, he worked in Minneapolis working for Zeigler Caterpillar until the illness of his father brought him back to the family farm.
In 1976, he married Mary Prevost from Lambert. They had two children, Dennis Dean born in 1982 and Mary Jolyn, born in 1990. In 1986, he purchased the Jimtown Bar in Lame Deer. He was also the owner of D&J's Trading Post in Wolf Point.
Dean loved music and especially loved to dance and taught dancing lessons for many years. He was never too tired to dance. He enjoyed going on many hunting trips to such places as Canada, Alaska and Africa. He was planning to take his family back to Africa in July for another hunting trip. He loved his family and was so proud of his children and their accomplishments.
Dean loved to work; in fact, he was considered a workaholic. Whatever he put his mind to, he would accomplish. Dean was a successful elk, buffalo, and dryland grain farmer and businessman. He was a member of the MT. Elk Breeders Assoc., MT Bison Assoc., Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, and served on the Farmers Union board. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife Mary and daughter Jolyn of Wolf Point and Colstrip; his sisters, Wilma Davis and Eileen (Ralph) Rigsby, both of Wolf Point; nieces and nephews, Kent Rigsby, Karleen Wiens, Ellen Kant, Dave Davis, Bryan Prevost, Leah Cross, Michelle Fisher and Shawna Martin. His son, Dennis, who was also killed in this accident and his parents and brother preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 1, from 4 to 7 p.m., with a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 2 at 10 am at the Wolf Point High School Gymnasium. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.stevensonandsons.com or [email protected]. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.

Mary and Jolyn. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you. Mary, it's been too many years since we've seen or talked to you but you and the rest of your sibblings offen come up in conversations. I have fond memories of the times we visited y'all on the farm.

Mary and Jolyn,

I was so sorry to hear of your loss. I had known Dean since high school and lived on a farm a short distance from the farm Dean grew up on. I have very fond memories of Dean as a teenager and we had a lot of good times when our families would get together for visits. When my family moved to the country from town Dean was the first person close to my age that I met. I'm sorry that I never had the pleasure of knowing your son Dennis but if he was anything like his father he was a very special person. My deepest sympathy to you and your family in this time of great sorrow.

Dean will be greatly missed both as a friend and a customer of A Bar S Processing. I met a lot of people thru Dean and his hunts. He was so proud of his photo albums of his Africa hunts and his game farm animals. A little bit of Humor from dean was when he told me of loosing his prize Moose mount out of the back of his truck coming back from Jim Town. He was upset about it but had to laugh about it saying I should have tied it down. The good times have to be remembered.
