Dixie Miller Obituary

WORDEN - Dixie Ann Miller, of Worden, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2013, at the age of 63. She was born Jan. 30, 1950, in Douglas, Wyo., the eldest daughter of Merle and Mona Dunham.

In 1960, Dixie's parents moved the family from their ranch in Buffalo to the newly purchased Tabor Hotel in Glenrock. In 1963, her life changed when she threw a water balloon at the car of a boy staying at the hotel, her future husband, Dick Miller. The two were only apart from then on when Dick was drafted in 1966, serving two years in the 101st Airborne at Fort Campbell Kentucky. During that time Dixie bore their first child, Kathy.

The couple was united in marriage the day of Dick's return from duty, Feb. 23, 1968. They welcomed two sons: Shane and Shawn and made their home in the oil fields of Belle Creek. They then relocated to Worden in 1986, purchasing Millers Dark Horse in 1988, becoming a large part of the community.

Dixie was happiest whenever her kids and grandkids were "home," spoiling them and passing her stories down to another generation. Her love and compassion extended to everyone she met and she spent her life helping others and supporting the athletes of Huntley Project. Any opportunity to socialize was never passed up by Dixie.

Dixie is survived by her husband, Dick; children, Kathy (Wayne), Shane (Stephanie) and Shawn (Teal); grandchildren, Courtney, Dorothy, Kullen, Shiane and Louden; sister, Nancy (Danny); and brother, Lee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Mona.

The family has chosen to have a private memorial at a later date to celebrate her life.

Memorials can be made in honor of Dixie to the American Cancer Society.
