Ellen Cora Davis Oberly, 89, formerly of Big Timber, Mont., and Milford, N.J., died peacefully on Thursday, April 14, 2011, at Valley Nursing Home in Billings.
Ellen was born on Sept. 7, 1921, in Phillipsburg, N.J., the first of five children, to Florence Moser Davis and Floyd Arling Davis. After graduation from high school, she married Charles "Bud" Oberly Jr. of Alpha, N.J. They raised three sons at their home in the Riegel Ridge neighborhood near Milford.
?Besides being a homemaker, Ellen worked as a pharmacy technician at Bowker's Pharmacy in Milford and Frenchtown Pharmacy.
She was a 60-year member of the Delaware Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Phillipsburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; parents Florence and Arling Davis; brothers Arling and Albert Davis; and her sister, Jane Schutte.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, David and Karen Oberly of Laurel, Dale and Beccy Oberly of Big Timber, and Richard and Betsy Oberly of Ithaca, N.Y.; a sister, Edith Exley of Bethlehem, Pa.; sisters-in-law, Blanche Montrom of Slatington, Pa., and Doris Davis of Bethlehem; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Ellen's neighbors at Riegel Ridge and Big Timber for their friendship and assistance, the staff at Tender Nest in Laurel, and the Hospice staff at the Valley Nursing Home Sapphire Suites.
Cremation has taken place and the cremains will be placed beside her husband in Stewartsville, N.J. A memorial service will be held at Stenberg Funeral Home in Big Timber at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 17.
