Frederick Harmon Obituary

Frederick Prosper Harmon (Fred the Bus Driver) passed away in the early morning of October 19, 2023 surrounded by his wife and children.

Fred was born in Morocco, Africa on June 26, 1949 to Solange Harmon. Fred grew up Hebrew and was a member of the tribe of Juda. Fred always told us that he was the real Tarzan and would swing from the vines in Africa. He moved to California with his mother and many of his family members from Morocco in 1960 at the age of 11. Growing up in Alameda, California with his mother and two sisters Patrica and Gina, he was always there for his younger sisters fulfilling the roll of

big brother perfectly.

In 1981 Fred married Madelena and they have 7 children together Holly Burkhart (Mark), David Harmon (Genella), Nicolette Arambula (Manuel), Jessica Harmon, Blake Harmon, Fred Harmon Jr (Emily) and Laura Harmon (Jason). They have 20 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Fred served in the Army at the age of 17 and was in for two years during Vietnam; he was stationed in Germany. In the early 80's Fred found a love for Jesus and became a Jew for Jesus, setting a foundation for his children to follow. Fred spent a lot of time reading the bible cover to cover. He would always read the Christmas story on Christmas Day out loud to his children before opening gifts.

In 1992 Fred and Maddy moved to Montana with their children. Fred started perusing the outdoors with his children teaching them to hunt and to have a general love for the outdoors. Fred and Maddy enjoyed riding motorcycles and spending time on their deck watching their chickens together.

Fred enjoyed spending time being the captain of his boat with his family, watching football, smoking a good cigar with his son Fred, eating Hershey bar sandwiches, listening to country music, and scaring the heck out of anyone he could. In his younger years Fred loved to play and watch golf.

Fred worked for many years as a car salesman eventually becoming a finance manager. He was a school bus driver, commercial bus driver and he was the driver for the Billings Mustangs. He loved to watch all the baseball games and heckle the players from the stands. He was known to many as "Fred The Bus Driver", there is even a book about him.

Fred is preceded in death by his son Blake Harmon and his mother Solange Harmon, and is survived by his wife Madelena, children, Holly, David, Nicolette, Jessica, Fred, Laura and his sisters Patrica Wheeler (Randy), and Gina Harmon.

The service will be held Tuesday at 10am at the Billings Vinyard Church 1413 Rosebud Ln, Billings MT 59101. Followed by a reception with coffee and light refreshments.

Sorry to be so belated in sending my condolences. As the manager of the Mustangs in 2022 it was my pleasure and privilege to sent in front of the bus and swap stories with Fred. I was only there one year but Fred left such an impression on me.
We talked sports, religion, politics and much more. His attitude and zest for life was contagious.
Reading his obit, it's obvious that he lived a great life. Filled with family and friends. I miss Fred so much. As I shared with players about Fred passing, all were so saddened. But all quickly added that having known Fred was a blessing.

I had a special bond with Fred with him being my bus driver when I was a Scarlet and a Mustang. He was right there with me along my journey and it was such a blessing from God. It felt like a family member was our bus driver. He was our number 1 fan and sometimes our only fan! (Away games). He was always there ready to encourage and cheer us on and we all loved stepping on that bus to see Fred. He wore his heart on his sleeve and man I´m gonna miss him and so will so many others. I´m so thankful to have had him in my life.

My condolences to Fred´s family. I will always appreciate our conversations on our road trips while he puffed at his cigar, the nod with "Mr.Rossi" as I made my way to my seat on the bus and his genuine interest and best wishes to my career. There´s no one else I´d trust to take me through the roads of Montana. Thank you for everything you did for us, you were the definition of "selfless" and will always hold a special place in my career.

So sorry to hear of Fred passing. Fred left such an impression on me as I got to ride in the front of the bus on those long trips. We had wonderful talks about everything from baseball to life in general. His sense of humor and his pride in country and family are lasting impressions he leaves with me. Thank you Fred for making my experience in the Pioneer League so positive
