We had a good visit in October. Jim telling of the old days around Stady and hunting stories of his days around the farm.

Uncle Jim always had a friendly smile and good humor. He took me on

my first fishing trip at the Great Falls MT fishery! and my first motorcycle ride at the Stady farm,

and my first airplane ride with plenty of loops. He's missed.

Even though we did not see Uncle Jim often after he moved to Montana, I have some very special memories.

One time he took Dad and I along with him up to a dam when he was working as a game warden. It was a beautiful drive in the winter, he told us all about his job, the area, the animals, etc. It seemed like he had such an exciting life, compared to farming. :-) We had coffee and cookies with his friends, an older couple that lived near the dam. They had a real bear rug, and a deer that rang the doorbell for cookies. I was enchanted.

I always remember him flying to Grandma's and landing in a field when I was little. That was something for a kid to see.....planes were pretty rare, and I didn't know anyone else that had an uncle that was a pilot. I was pretty puffed up when I told the other kids at school about it. :-)

And of course, there is the little kettle from our farm that Dad had given him, and then he gave it back to me when Larry and I stopped in and visited a few years ago. It is something Uncle Jim and I 'shared', and now it is so extra special to me.

So Sorry to hear of your Loss. As a close friend to Helen in our early teen years, I know that Jim was a special Dad to Helen and her siblings. Take comfort in knowing he is in happier hunting grounds now. Love, Gail

I have very fond memories of hunting with Jim and my father, Henry Grant. My father was the county attorney during the time when Jim was the game warden. They had a close professional relationship and truly enjoyed each others company, particularly during bird hunting season. Jim was an incredible shot with a shot gun and just a kind gentle man to be around. I will always remember walking through the fields in the Stillwater Valley with my father on one side and Jim on the other slowly moving through the field waiting for the pheasant to take flight. Great memories of a wonderful man.
