Harrison Fagg Obituary

Harrison G. Fagg

October 27, 1931 - March 29, 2025

Harrison G. Fagg lived his life to the fullest, and leaves a legacy not soon to be forgotten. His family would like to share the sad and good news of his passing and trust he is now at peace with the Lord. Harrison was many things: loving husband, Dad, grandfather, friend, architect (designing and building some of the tallest buildings in the state), business owner, mountain climber (climbing all 28 12,000 foot mountains in Montana with son Grant), state high school football champion at Billings Senior, pilot, Air Force veteran, backpacker, kayaker (kayaking the Smith River at 87), Montana Environmental Hall of Fame recipient, 16-year Montana legislator (authoring many significant bills, including the Montana Hard Rock Mining Reclamation Act) , House Majority Leader, civic leader earning dozens of awards and accolades, and world traveler accounting for well north of one million miles. Harrison had a great laugh and loved having a dog or three at his side. Harrison's most enjoyable place in the world, which he and mom built by hand, was their cabin on the Stillwater. Harrison was born October 27, 1931, and died peacefully with family March 29, 2025. Those 93 1/2 years were packed with love, loss, adventure, hard work, setbacks, exhilarating moments, excruciating pain, and a life worth living. His greatest accomplishment, which was only by the grace of God, was when he accepted Jesus as his Savior and Lord in 1960. Even after this momentous event, he still messed up regularly and he knew it. But he kept trying to do better, loving more, trusting deeply, and striving to achieve the true meaning of life: to Love God with all his heart, soul, strength and mind, and love his neighbor as himself. He often admitted failure at this, but continued his journey. Harrison was married to his first love, Darlene (Bohling) Fagg, for 60 years. Darlene was Harrison's partner in all things and he credits her for any successes he had. Darlene died 13 years ago and Harrison was fortunate to marry Susan (Gregori) Fagg 11 years ago. Susan was a companion, confidant, and caregiver enriching his life. Harrison's children, Sherril (Mike), Russ (Karen), and Grant (Claudia), are grateful for Susan being in Harrison's life and loving him to the end. Harrison was blessed to have six grandchildren: Eugene (Lauren) Burke, Michaela (David) Stevens, Harrison Fagg, Barclay (Brendan) Sedgwick, Liliana Fagg, and Delaney Fagg, and four great-grandchildren, Helen Burke, Simon Burke, Penelope Stevens, and Juniper Stevens. Susan's four children, Catherine, Teresa, Felix, and Margaret, were bonus gains for Harrison as well.

My family and I extend our condolences to Grant, Russ, Sherrill and their families.
Harrison was a force of nature! He was a visionary architect, a ferocious defender of our public lands, and is a legend of the Billing community.
I´ve never met anyone who knew him who didn´t have a story to tell. He had an impact wherever he went and Billings and Montana are the better for it.
He will go down in history as one of the true, unique characters who gave Billings so much flavor and character, right up there with P B Moss, the Yegen Brothers, Mayor Willard Fraser, Freeman Lacey & Addison Bragg.
He will be missed by his friends and family, but never forgotten.

My condolences to the family! My heart is saddened to hear of Harrison's passing. He and Susan attended the Nye Community Church when they came to their cabin in Nye. Harrison was such an encourager to me and I counted him as a friend. I will miss seeing him in Church! I know Harrison is in the arms of Jesus! Pastor Duane Hull, Nye Community Church

Sherril, Russ, and Grant - my condolences to you. Your father was a wonderful man and I recall spending time at your house enjoying great times and creating memories. Harrison was always gracious and accomodating, as was your mom. He had a great run at life.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Mike and Sherril and the rest of the family. I had to smile at the obituary as to the many things Harrison did through his life and some he was not so proud of. Yes spoken like a real Montana Man. I feel so proud to have known Harrison and proud to have worked with him on the proposed downtown mall that would have housed the Herberger Retail location. I was honored to be on the flight to their home office in St Cloud. and set through the meetings with him. He was a real pro!
I will always remember Harrison as a doer and a true Montana Man. Build the Big one in the sky Harrison!

Harrison was one of the most amazing men I´ve ever known. He made a huge impact in my life as we drove all around the state some years back, visiting churches, ministering to men. He fished me out of the Smith River when I tipped out of my kayak, a story he loved to tell. Our loss is heaven´s gain. I look forward to seeing him again.
Susan, Russ, Grant, and Sherril, I know he loved you all deeply. He was so proud of his family and always had a story to tell about and your kids. Love to you all, Brett

Dear Judge Russ Fagg and all the rest of your family...I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad. He sounded like quite a guy! Someone whose absence from you all leaves a large gap. Happy to know he knew Christ! Gosh, the vistas he's beholding now, huh?!!! May wonderful memories continue to surface until you see him again.

I am so sorry to hear of Harrison's passing. The phrase that came to me first was "Harrison was a true force!" The world was a better place because of his being here! And now he is in the best place!

Harrison was such a dear, sweet man. I met him while working at HGFA for Mike and Sherrill when he would come in for a visit or to request assistance on one of his many projects. He did not let his age slow him down a bit, he was determined to get every drop out of life. He will be missed, I'm glad I got to meet him.

I was so sad to hear about Harrison's passing. I will miss seeing him "racing" his car up our hill! He was a bundle of energy, easily running circles around most people. His accomplishments were abundant and he was always thinking of his next project. What a great life he had...he will be greatly missed.

Harrison was a mentor and a driving force in my career as an architect. He was unstoppable in many ways but also very caring. He always set high standards and goals for himself and others. He loved the mountains. I was fortunate to have worked with him from 1977 through 1984. He was a true professional. I was very fortunate to have helped him design many a wonderful and challenging projects. His love of nature and Montana was truly expressed in all of his work at Big Sky, Montana. He never looked back. Once he started something he finished it. His dedication and love of design and construction and his interest and respect for clients was a great thing to witness and learn from. He will be missed

Talk about a driving force...Harrison just bubbled with energy adding/instigating always building and inventing new ways to do things. Without Harrison the Montana Republican party would not be where it is today. Such fond memories of working with him when President Reagan came to Billings. Harrison was so innovative and a team player.
