SIDNEY - Harry Carsten Olsen, 97, passed away at Sidney Health Center on April 13, 2013. Harry was born in the Dagmar community to Jens and Clara Olsen on Oct. 15, 1915. He attended Emerson School by the Danish Brotherhood Hall. Harry enjoyed his Danish community and its traditions. Harry worked a variety of jobs during the Depression, including the Fort Peck Dam project. He married Metha Stromberg on June 28, 1939, and they were married for 71 years. The couple farmed near Dagmar. Harry enjoyed raising livestock, gardening and working the land. Harry and Metha shared their life and talents together. They were well-known for teaching folk dancing at Nathanael Church Bible Camp.
After retirement, the couple moved to Missoula and later returned to Plentywood. In 2007, the couple moved to The Lodge Assisted Living in Sidney. Metha passed away in 2010. Harry had music in his soul, listening to his records and dancing with his daughters, staff members, and even with his walker.
Harry is survived by his daughters, Gloria (Arnold) Melnikoff and Kathy (Ron) Jensen; grandchildren Jim (Kathy) Stephens, Tracy (Luke) Savage, Julie (Alyn) Brown, and David Jensen; great-grandchildren Annika Stephens, Mikael, Matthew and Andrew Savage, and Noah, Harmon, Joshua and Aage Brown; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Harry also has two surviving sisters, Edna Hedges and Edith Grayson of Billings.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Metha; son Allen; brothers Raymond, Art, Ed, Leo, Jimmy and sisters Mabel and Agnes.
Services will be held at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Dagmar on Friday, April 19, at 10:30 a.m.
