John Owen Copelton
DEER LODGE - John Copelton, a man of many talents and a heart of gold, passed away on June 5, 2024, in Missoula, Montana. He was born in New Jersey, on January 25, 1957, to Sarah Alpaugh. John led a remarkable life filled with diverse experiences and unwavering love for his family
A true man, John pursued education in Culinary Arts and Psychology, showcasing his intellectual curiosity and creative spirit. His dedication extended to the military, where he served in the Army Forces fifth infantry with honor and courage.
Beyond his professional pursuits, John found joy in various hobbies and interests such as Fly Fishing, Riding Motorcycles, Baking, Gourmet Cooking, Target Shooting, and Leatherwork. These activities not only brought him personal fulfillment but also served as outlets for his boundless energy and passion.
Described as an intimidating figure with tall stature, blue eyes, and a strong will, John's presence commanded attention. Yet behind this exterior lay a loving soul who cherished his family above all else. His love for Brenda Griffin and their children ran deep, demonstrating a tenderness that belied his imposing demeanor. Despite any outward toughness, John possessed a heart of gold and readily offered help to those in need, regardless of their background.
In his passing, John is reunited with his mother, Father, and Brother who preceded him in death. He leaves behind a legacy of love and strength that will be carried on by the surviving members of his family. John is survived by the love of his life Brenda Griffin; sons Christopher Whitley and Ryan Copelton; daughter Christina Copelton; grandchildren Ryan H. (Copelton) Stansbury, Riely T. Copelton, Morganne E. Whitley, Priscilla Mcavoy; as well as several great-grandchildren.
John's impact on those around him was profound and enduring. May he rest in peace knowing that he was loved deeply by many and will be dearly missed.
