Lillian Knaub Karst

Lillian Knaub Karst, 74, of Billings passed away at her home on Saturday morning, July 8, 2006, following a long illness.
Lillian was born Sept. 7, 1931, in Huntley, to Alex and Amelia (Herzog) Knaub. She was raised in the Huntley area and graduated from Huntley Project High School in Worden in 1949. Lillian married Melvin Karst on June 19, 1949, in Worden. They lived in Pompey's Pillar and she maintained a second home in Billings where she stayed while working in Billings. She began working as a clerk at the Bollinger Grocery Store in Worden and then worked at Clarks Market in Billings where she received the "Checker Of the Year" award in l959. She retired from Evergreen IGA in l995, after 38 years in the grocery business.
Lillian enjoyed playing bingo, listening to Old Time Music, going out to lunch and coffee with friends, watching her favorite TV shows such as the Lawrence Welk reruns and polka dancing shows. She had been a caregiver to her husband, parents and brother's all her life.
She was a former member of the Bethlehem Congregational Church in Worden.
Survivors include her brother, William Knaub of Billings, and several nieces and nephews, aunts, Molly Karst of Ballantine, Mary Herzog of Billings, and sisters-in-law, Lillie Karst, Hanna Schurring, June Karst, Ellen O'Connell, and Rachel Hofferber.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers, Tom and Jim Knaub.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 13, at the Bethlehem Congregational Church in Worden. Interment will be in the Pleasantview Cemetery in Ballantine. Visitation will begin at noon on Tuesday, July 11, at Smith Downtown Chapel, 925 S. 27th. Memorials may be made to the Bethlehem Congregational Church, Worden.
