Linda Jacobson Obituary

Linda passed away on October 22, 2025, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings, MT, surrounded by her family. She was 82, though forever young at heart.

Born in 1943 in Roundup, MT, to Frank and Mary (Nose) Pirtz, Linda moved with her family to Billings in 1946. She grew up with her sisters Judy and Mary, brothers Frank, Matt, and Bobby, and a large extended family. She attended Fratt Memorial and Holy Rosary schools and graduated from Billings Central Catholic High School in 1961.

After earning her degree from Carroll College in 1965, Linda taught fifth grade at Holy Rosary School, where she made a lasting impact on her students.

In 1966, she married John Jacobson, whom she met while cruising downtown Billings. Together they raised three daughters - Jennifer (Jim) Smithwick, Julie (Matt) Cook, and Katie (Dan) Jacobson - and delighted in being grandparents to Mason Smithwick and Saylor Cook.

For decades, Linda managed the Rainbow Bar, a family business started by her grandmother in 1935. She proudly carried on that legacy until passing it to her daughter Katie in 2022.

Linda loved golf. She joined the Laurel Golf Club in 1974, served on its board, and was active in women's golf statewide. She was inducted into the Montana State Women's Golf Hall of Fame in 1999.

Linda was also known for her creativity, curiosity, and sense of fun. She loved pottery, photography, playing Bridge, travel, and time with friends.

She is survived by her husband, daughters, grandchildren, sisters Judy and Mary, and brother Matt. She joins her parents and brothers, Frank and Bobby, who preceded her in death.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 10 a.m., followed by A Toast to Linda's Life at 1 p.m. at the Billings Depot.

Condolences and memories may be shared online at www.dahlfuneralchapel.com or written in a memory book at the Depot. Those wishing to make a charitable donation may consider The Women & Family Shelter in Billings, a cause she supported.

I really enjoyed spending time with Linda at the Laurel Golf Club! We had so many ladies named Linda that we named them the Linda Linda group. She always had a smile and was so involved with helping at all the tournaments and events. I will miss her laugh and great sense of humor. May God comfort her family and friends.

Linda has been such a good sister in law to me for 50 years. She told the funniest stories! I love the way she always giggled while she was telling them. Sending all my love and sympathy to John, Jenny, Julie, Katie, Judy, Matt, Mary and their families.
