Lloyd Hanson Obituary

WHITE BIRD, Idaho - Lloyd Eugene Stewart (Hanson), 91, of White Bird, Idaho passed away at Syringa General Hospital in Grangeville, Idaho on Friday, Feb. 10, of natural causes. Lloyd was born in Rock Rapids, Iowa on Nov. 17, 1920. He was the son of Lloyd Alvin Stewart and Martha Marie Stewart, later adopted by his aunt Sadie Hanson and Uncle Knute Hanson.

He married Lucille Christine Ochsner, and together, they had three children. They later divorced and he then married Shirley Irene West. They had no children and later divorced, remaining lifelong friends.

After high school, Lloyd joined the U.S. Army, active duty in July of 1942 through November of 1945, where he served in World War II, earning two Purple Hearts and a Silver Star. He remained in the National Guard and Army Reserves to attain the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. Lloyd also worked for Union Oil Company and retired after more than 35 years, all the while carrying out his military career until retirement. Lloyd later dedicated his time to the American Legion and VFW. He was extremely proud of his time in the service and enjoyed sharing his stories with friends and family.

Lloyd is survived by his son Michael S. Hanson Sr. of Clarkston, Wash., his daughter Jane Kathleen Brown of St. George, Utah, and his son Jeffrey Lloyd Hanson of St. George, Utah. He had seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Neil Struwe of West Linn, Ore.

As a young man, Lloyd enjoyed fly fishing and spending time in the outdoors. He also enjoyed collecting souvenirs while traveling to visit family and friends throughout his retirement. Lloyd especially enjoyed relaxing to his "big band" music collection, and socializing. Lloyd was dear to his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
