Lowell B. Hutton, 84, of Billings died Friday, May 17, 2002, at Deaconess Hospital.
Lowell, the son of Homer Earl and Myrtle Foreman Hutton, was born on a ranch near Jeffers, on Sept. 7, 1917. He grew up hunting and fishing the mountains and streams of the Madison Valley. He graduated from Ennis High School, and attended Montana State College in Bozeman. He married Sue Croonquist on Aug. 29, 1943. They moved to Billings in 1945, and he worked at Pierce Packing Co., eventually as shipping manager, until the business closed.
Lowell loved sports and the outdoors, and our family spent many happy times camping or at a mountain cabin, fishing and hiking. He and Sue enjoyed a rich retirement of travels all over the world, and special times with their grandchildren. They were longtime members of First Congregational Church.
Lowell was preceded in death by his wife Sue; parents Earl and Myrtle; brothers Victor and Wilbur; sister Genevieve; and his beloved son Richard Lowell Hutton.
Survivors include his daughter Susan Hutton Gammill and son-in-law, Robert Gammill of Billings; brother Philip Hutton (Eunice) of Richland, Wash.; three grandchildren, Laura Gammill Marahrens (York), Richard Lee Gammill (Amy), and David Lowell Gammill; one great-grandson James Philip Gammill; and several nieces and nephews.
Lowell had an unstoppable sense of humor, was a kind and gentle person, and remained the consummate gentleman until the end. He was greatly loved, and will be sorely missed, but we are reassured that he is at last reunited with his dearest Sue and son Rick.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Ginny Wanner and Jayme Bogen and the staff of Ginny Wanner's Personal Care Inc. for providing a loving and caring home for Lowell the past five years.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, with interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the Billings YMCA or to First Congregational Church.Michelotti-Sawyers is in charge of arrangements.
