Marvin Stark Obituary

Marvin Stark passed away Feb. 13, 2005, at Eagle Cliffs Manor. He was 90 years old.
Marvin was born Dec. 28, 1914, at the family home in Rice Lake, Wis., to George Oliver and Alba (Olsen) Stark. He graduated from Rice Lake High in 1932. In 1939, he married his high school sweetheart, Marie Anderson. They celebrated their 63rd anniversary before her passing in 2002.
After serving in the Marine Corps in Japan during WWII, he and Marie moved to Billings, where they built their home and raised their family. He worked briefly for Rocky Mountain Furniture and then for the Great Western Sugar Company as a top mechanic until his early retirement at age 57, due to a back injury sustained while deer hunting. Retirement was spent going on road trips, doing yard work, baking cookies and smoking his pipe on the porch swing, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
During his life, Marvin bravely faced spinal fusion surgery, cancer, hip replacement and finally, a pelvic fracture.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Julian, Kenneth and Orville; three sisters, Alta, Helen and Jeanetta; and his wife, Marie. He is survived by three daughters: Suzy Holbrook, Judy (Russ Angwin) and Kathy Jourdan (Trent Dokken); 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, with two on the way; several nieces and nephews.
Marvin was a gentle natured, unassuming man who found pleasure in being with his family instead of being in large crowds. We will surely miss him.
A graveside blessing will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in Marvin's name.
