MISSOULA - Paul Carl Meismer, 54, passed away at home on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, due to cancer.
Paul was born on Feb. 17, 1955, in Billings, to Robert and Virginia Meismer. Paul graduated with a Juris Doctorate from the University Of Montana School Of Law in 1981. Paul remained in Missoula after his graduation, where he practiced law until the time of his death. Paul began his career at the law firm of Garlington, Lohn and Robinson, where he eventually became a partner in the firm. Most recently, he opened his own firm, Meismer and Associates, where he practiced general civil litigation with an emphasis on personal injury matters. Paul was licensed by or a member of the State Bar of Montana, U.S. District Court of Montana, U.S. Court of Appeals 9th Circuit, Confederated Salish Tribal Court and Kootenai Tribal Court.
Paul loved the outdoors, including fly fishing and skiing. He was on the football team in high school; he also played the trombone and was an accomplished member of the debate team. Paul was on the Moot Court team that took the national championship in New York City in 1981. He had a great love of American history and a passion for the history and modeling of the railroad system. Paul was a great lawyer, but an even better friend and father. He loved and supported his three children until the end of his days, always encouraging them to be gracious in all things; he encouraged them to always pursue their interests and dreams. Throughout his life, Paul was a kind and compassionate friend, father, husband, volunteer and professional. He battled his cancer with tremendous courage and a great sense of humor. He won himself a place in the hearts of many, and will be deeply missed by all who know him.

I was stunned to see that Paul died so young. I was a freshman senator at then EMC, Paul was a senator, too. Older than me by about 3 years. Sweet guy, very smart. And I remember he wanted to become an attorney. Best wishes to family - Grace Evans
