Steven (Scott) Pekovich
BILLINGS - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steven Scott Pekovich, age 54, from Billings, MT. Surrounded by the love of his family, Scott, as he was affectionately known, departed on February 15.
Scott is survived by his wife, Caree, his children from a previous marriage, daughter Tierney (Grandson Easton) and son Tyson, step-children from his current marriage, Parker and Addee, and brother Mike Pekovich and his children BrookLynn, Deegan, and Steele. He leaves behind a legacy cherished by his mother, Pam Michotte and father Greg (Becky) Pekovich.
Scott was a true sports enthusiast, achieving great success in racquetball. He proudly earned the title of two-time Montana singles racquetball champion and a 15 and under National Racquetball Champion. Known as "3 Point Pek" during his time at Billings West, Scott dazzled on the basketball court, scoring an impressive eight three-pointers in one half during a memorable game. His talent extended to the golf course, where he excelled as an all-state golfer in his senior year.
A proud alum of the University of Montana with a business degree, Scott's passion for golf led him to a career that perfectly aligned with his personable nature. Starting as an assistant golf professional at Yegen Golf Club, he later became the head PGA Professional, establishing the beloved Yegen Kids program for the youth of Billings.
Continuing his journey, Scott took on the role of head PGA Professional at The Briarwood, where he recently held the position of General Manager. Known for his ability to balance creativity with firm expectations, Scott created an environment enjoyed by many, leaving an indelible mark on the golf community.
Scott's love for UCLA basketball and the Chicago Bears reflected his unwavering sportsmanship. His life was marked by extraordinary achievements, including two hole-in-ones in a single round of golf and a rare hole-in-one on a par four.
Throughout his battle with cancer, Scott exemplified strength, determination, and a positive attitude until the very end. His impact on the lives of those he encountered will forever be remembered, and his spirit will continue to inspire us all.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The First Tee of Montana, P.O. Box 21056, Billings, MT 59104, in Scott's honor. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Briarwood Golf Club on Saturday, June 15, 2024. Time and other details still to be determined. May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration during this difficult time.
