Theodore M. Rist
BILLINGS - Theodore M. Rist, 86, of Billings died peacefully at Billings Clinic on Nov. 4, 2023, from a brain tumor.
Ted was born in St. Paul, MN, to Theodore E. and Myrtle Rist. He graduated High School from St. Paul Park, MN, where he excelled in basketball, football, tennis and track and field. In 1960, Ted graduated from Luther College, Decorah, IA, married Eloise West and began his teaching career in Benson, MN. Their three sons, Todd, Jon, and Jay were born in Benson, MN. He coached High School Football and Track, and College Football at UM Morris, from 1961 - 1979.
Ted moved to Billings in 1981, when the marriage ended. In Billings, he was employed by Holeman GM Diesel, Tractor and Equipment and Whitewood Transport from 1981 - 2009.
He married Elaine Haaland in 2001. Ted was an avid golfer, enjoyed gardening and loved to cook for family and friends. He was a member of American Lutheran Church for 22 years, and served on the Board of Luther's Lodge for 15 years.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Jay in 2014, brother, Ron, and brother-in-law, Jim.
Survivors include his wife Elaine, son Todd and his 5 children Brett, Dain (Amber), Nicholas (Molly), Madison and Vail, son Jon (Lisa) and his 3 children, Abigail (Sam), Tanner and Zoe, sister Barb, all living in MN, and Jay's daughter, Michelle from South Korea.
Also surviving are Elaine's loving family, all living in MT: Son Glen (Bernie), daughter Jill (Calvin), and daughter Amy (Greg), brothers-in-law, Norm and Gene (Rebecca).
Together there are 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held at American Lutheran Church, Monday, November 13, 2023, 11 a.m.
Memorials preferred to American Lutheran Church, 5 Lewis Ave., 59101 and Luther's Lodge, P.O. Box 825, 59103.

My love, sympathy and prayers for Elaine and the Rist family during his passing. What a joy it has been to know him and know he will be missed.
