Thomas L. Searles passed away Feb. 3, 2015. Tom was first diagnosed on April 1, 2011, and originally not given much time. Despite what he was told, Tom put up an inspiring fight and enriched our lives.
Tom was born in Rapid City, S.D., on Nov. 24, 1963, to Margaret and Eldon Searles. Tom, also known as "Hippie Tom," moved to Montana on Jan. 5, 1983, because of the beauty of this state. Soon after moving to Montana, he married and became stepfather to Dakota Anderson, Heather Anderson and Tyler Anderson; as well as father to Jessica Searles. After a separation, Tom soon found the love of his life, Dorthia Grass. He became stepfather to Natasha Grass and Phillip Grass. Tom has always been a proud father, stepfather and grandfather to London Robinson (Natasha Grass), Forrest O'Brien (Dakota Anderson), and Aystin Anderson (Heather Anderson).
Tom first drove truck over the road while in Montana. What started as a truck driving position for a landscaping company ended with the discovery of a passion and skill for landscaping. Tom took true pride in his works of art. Meanwhile, he was proud of his seasonal work with Associated Glass.
Tom is survived by his mother, Margaret; and his brother Eldon Searles Jr.; as well as his stepchildren, daughter and grandchildren.
Tom was a dear friend to many of us - some drawn to him through his 40-year love of the Minnesota Vikings and others through Tom's love of fishing and the outdoors.
Tom will be in our hearts forever as an amazing friend, son, brother, father and grandfather.
